Both AX3 and AX5 variants of the Mahindra XUV 7XO are available with two engine options – a 2.0-litre mStallion turbo petrol engine that produces 200 hp and 380 Nm of torque and a 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine offered in two guises, where the lower tune delivers 155 hp and 360 Nm of torque, while the higher tune generates 185 hp and 420 Nm, increasing to 450 Nm with the automatic transmission. Both engines are paired with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic. Mahindra claims the SUV can accelerate from 0 to 60 km/h in under 5 seconds, and during our tests, it achieved 0 to 100 km/h in around 10 seconds, which is strong performance for a large SUV. The XUV 7XO also offers multiple drive modes, including Zip, Zap, Zoom, and a custom mode, along with an optional all-wheel-drive system. Another major highlight is the global debut of Mahindra’s new DAVINCI suspension system.

My View

Now, choosing between these two variants of the Mahindra XUV 7XO can be quite tricky for a whole bunch of buyers. The only question that you will need to ask yourself is if it makes sense for you to spend an additional Rs 1.50 lakh on the new features on the AX5 in comparison to the AX3. If things like a panoramic sunroof, front parking sensors, etc., are something you want, going for the AX5 makes sense. However, if you wish to purchase a value-for-money trim, the AX3 takes care of all the basic amenities that you would ever need. In any case, you can’t go wrong with either of these.

Editor’s Note

Yatharth Chauhan, Managing Editor

As someone who has tracked Mahindra’s SUV strategy closely for over a decade, I see the AX3 vs AX5 decision as a classic value-versus-indulgence choice in today’s Indian market. Mahindra has smartly loaded the AX3 with essentials that most buyers actually use, making it one of the strongest value propositions in the segment. The AX5, meanwhile, is clearly aimed at customers who want premium feel and showroom appeal, especially features like the panoramic sunroof. My advice is simple, buy with your usage in mind, not just the brochure highlights.
