Maruti is about to launch the Toyota Innova Hycross-inspired Invicto premium MPV in our market.
The official bookings for the Maruti Invicto MPV have commenced at Rs 25,000 and the launch will take place on July 5. We know that Toyota and Suzuki have been in a joint venture for around 5 years now. As a part of this agreement, the two have decided to sell badge-engineered products in the Indian market. In the first leg of this JV, Toyota borrowed models from Maruti Suzuki including Glanza (from Baleno) and Urban Cruiser (from Brezza) and sold them under its logo. In return, Suzuki borrows technology from Toyota and new-gen products like the Toyota Innova Hycross and Maruti Invicto are a part of that. Hence, Invicto will be based on the Innova Hycross.

Maruti Invicto Bookings
There have been plenty of renderings of the Invicto by prominent digital artists. However, we can ascertain that the looks won’t be too radically different from the Hycross as we have seen with the past few products. Hence, we could expect a broad grille with chrome inserts, sleek LED DRLs and headlamps, a sporty bumper, an upright stance, stylish alloy wheels, an SUV-ish appearance, LED taillamps connected by a chrome bar or a light bar, etc. All in all, we can expect an almost similar silhouette and design elements as we see on the Hycross.

What We Think
This looks like a perfect product on many fronts. Firstly, it is based on the most successful MPV India has ever seen, Toyota Innova. Secondly, it combines that popularity with the dense and unmatched aftersales and service network of Maruti Suzuki. It never had a true premium MPV in its arsenal but people would now get that option. Its touchpoints in far-flung areas of the country will ensure that it could attract all sorts of buyers to churn volumes. Hence, we think that Invicto has the perfect ingredients to grab a large chunk of market share in this segment.
