Maruti Jimny Replaces Gypsy for Forest Safaris

Maruti Gypsy has been an iconic product in our market among off-roading enthusiasts for years now

The Maruti Jimny has replaced old Gypsy cars to be used in forest safaris and the latest images highlight the modifications. The Indian-spec Jimny bears a 5-door configuration, which is the first for the lightweight SUV ever. Still, to make it even more suitable for jungle safaris, there are many modifications. Until now, the rugged and barebones Maruti Gypsy cars were being used as safari cars almost everywhere in India. For now, let us take a look at the details here.

Maruti Jimny Replaces Gypsy for Forest Safaris

The images of this capable and unique Maruti Jimny have been going viral on the internet. To begin with, the original roof has been chopped off completely. Not only that, even the side pillars have been eliminated. Instead, in fact, there are iron bars installed in the place of side pillars which hold a canopy roof with additional height. This makes it an open jeep, a common layout among safari cars everywhere in the world. In addition, this Jimny even gets additional seating to accommodate more passengers at an elevated place.

This helps with the view of the outside while spotting wild animals. Note that the spare tyre has been mounted on the side as there is no tailgate anymore. The addition of side steps enhances the ingress and egress characteristics of the passengers. To make it more rugged and tough, we see extra metallic rods at the front to protect the headlamps which also extend to the side section. Also, this Jimny embodies new and colossal wheel arches and a new set of alloy wheels. These boast a high profile which translates to a more chunky tyre. This results in great ride quality which is critical since the car will mostly travel on uneven surfaces in jungles. All in all, this has to be among the most rugged Maruti Jimny cars I have come across in a while.

My View

Forest safaris are extremely popular in many parts of the world. In such scenarios, one always needs reliable and tough off-roaders. Note that the requirements are completely different from regular cars. As a result, it makes sense to take the most popular off-roading machine and customize it accordingly. I really appreciate the modifications made on this Jimny to make it jungle-ready. This is also a testament to the capabilities of this car. I shall keep an eye out for more such cases in times to come.
