Maruti Omni Flies Over Broken Road Amidst Flash Floods in Himachal

It is incredible what the spirit of ‘jugaad’ can lead Indians to create to solve any problem

An almost unbelievable video has emerged online where a Maruti Omni is seen ‘flying’ over a broken patch of road due to the ongoing flash floods in Himachal Pradesh. We know that the last few weeks have been mighty tough for the mountain states of the country. These include Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. There has been heavy devastation in terms of life, property and infrastructure. Landslides, cloud bursts, broken roads, collapsing buildings, and crumbled vehicles have become a common sight. The wrath of nature is evident. In any case, let us see what some locals near Manali did to create a temporary solution for mobility.

Maruti Omni ‘Flies’ Over Road in Manali

This video clip emerges from born_to_awara on Instagram. At first glance, what you end up watching feels doctored (photoshopped). One witnesses a completely broken segment of a road, probably due to a recent landslide. Going by the visuals, at least a good 50-metre patch has just disappeared. Understandably, it has hampered the vehicular movement. However, some people came up with a unique and bizarre idea to tie the Maruti Omni to a few ropes and bamboo sticks and pull it from the other side.

Hence, we see the locals send the car from one side of the road after securing it tightly to the other side. After the car is let loose from one side, the people standing on the opposite end begin pulling the rope. In a matter of a few seconds, the van reaches the other side. On the surface, it looks like the process is simple and efficient, but it must’ve taken them a lot of time to plan and prepare for this. For someone who comes from the mountains, I can inform our readers that such makeshift techniques have been in use in remote areas for decades now. This is simply a special application of an age-old concept.

My View

Lives in the mountains might seem simple and easy for many people, but the harsh realities of mountain life emerge in times like these. The rainy season always ends up creating devastation each year. Nature has a very cruel way of restoring balance, which has been tampered with by humans in the name of development in the last many years. Now, nature is retaliating with force. Let us hope and pray that things get back to normal soon.
