maruti suzuki automatic cars sales record

Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) surpasses the 1 million mark in automatic vehicle sales. Known as the country’s largest selling carmaker, the automaker even enjoys the status of being India’s top-most seller of automatic cars. In fact, its AGS (AMT) technology has been rather instrumental in popularizing two-pedal automatic cars in the country. The company currently offers a range of four distinct automatic options – Auto Gear Shift (AGS), 4-speed Automatic Transmission (AT), 6-speed Automatic Transmission (AT) with Steering Mounted Paddle Shifters, and Electronic-Continuous Variable Transmission (e-CVT). These options are available across 16 different models, ranging from entry-level Alto to the Strong Hybrid Invicto.

AGS Account for 65% of Sales

Maruti Suzuki states that its automatic transmission options are a result of comprehensive consumer feedback. In 2014, the company introduced AGS (AMT) technology, which was quickly embraced by customers owing to the attributes of affordability, fuel economy and convenience. Presently, 65% of Maruti Suzuki’s automatic vehicles are equipped with AGS technology. Additionally, AT automatic transmission models comprise 27% of total automatic sales. Meanwhile, Hybrid e-CVT transmission account for about 8% of MSIL automatic sales.

Speaking on the achievement, Mr. Shashank Srivastava, Senior Executive Officer, Marketing and Sales, Maruti Suzuki India, said, “At Maruti Suzuki, we are passionate about providing our customers with the best driving experience. We have made it our mission to spread the ‘Joy of Mobility’ to all! This spirit has enabled us to democratise automatic transmission technology with numerous types of options. And we are truly humbled by the customer response we have received. MSIL’s automatic car sales have been on the rise constantly. We are already close to touching the one lakh automatic vehicle sales mark for FY23-24, as we stand in the middle of the financial year. This is truly a tremendous feat for us.”

NEXA Accounts for 58% of Maruti Suzuki Automatic Cars Sales

“Further examining the behaviour of consumers, it is worth noting that NEXA customers tend to prefer high-end automatic variants. Arena customers meanwhile prefer mid-variants when making a purchase decision. As things stand today, NEXA accounts for about 58% of automatic car sales at MSIL, while Arena contributes about 42%.” added Mr. Srivastava.

Key regions contributing significantly to Maruti Suzuki’s automatic car sales include Delhi-NCR, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh & Telangana, and Kerala. The 5-speed AGS gearbox comes in models like the Alto K-10, S-Presso, Celerio, WagonR, Ignis, Swift, Dzire, Baleno, and Fronx. Furthermore, the 4-speed Automatic transmission comes in the Jimny and Ciaz. The 6-speed Automatic transmission is available in the Fronx, Brezza, Ertiga, XL6, and Grand Vitara. The e-CVT technology is available in the Strong Hybrid variants of Grand Vitara and Invicto.
