The largest carmaker in India, Maruti Suzuki has announced an increase in prices on almost all of its products. This includes the Arena, as well as Nexa models. The beginning of each year brings with it a price hike because of the added tariffs on raw material and various other input costs. Many brands announced in December 2020 that they will increase the prices of their products starting this January and have done that. It is worth mentioning that the amount of hike depends on the model and variants. We start from the smallest hatchback from Maruti Suzuki, the Alto 800. It received a price hike of Rs 5,000 for the base variant and Rs 14,000 for the top variant. The micro-SUV from Suzuki, the S-Presso is expensive by Rs 5,000 for the CNG variant and Rs 7,000 for the top trim variant. One of the highest price change in the hatchback segment is applicable to the Wagon R, which comes with 1.0-litre and 1.2-litre petrol engine along with a 1.0-litre CNG unit. The prices for the 1.0-litre base variant have gone up by Rs 7,500, for the 1.0-litre CNG variants by Rs 20,500 and for the 1.2-litre top trim by Rs 23,200. This is a rather substantial hike in the prices for a car of this segment.
Maruti Suzuki Celerio gets a hike of Rs 9,100 for the LXi (O) variant and Rs 19,400 for the VXi AMT. Also, soon to be updated Swift has increased the starting price by Rs 30,000. The mid-trim VXi and top-trim ZXi of the Dzire get increments of Rs 5,000 and Rs 12,500 respectively. The base and the top-trim of the Vitara Brezza have gone up by Rs 5,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively. The popular MPV from Maruti, the Ertiga has seen a price hike between Rs 10,000 and Rs 34,000. Ertiga is the one, that has seen the highest increase in prices. The commercial offering from Suzk, the Eeco has seen a price increase of Rs 17,00 and Rs 23,400 depending on the variants.
The highest-selling premium hatchback in the country has seen a hike in prices from Rs 5,000 to Rs 25,000 and Ignis sees an increase of Rs 3,000 and Rs 11,000. The Ciaz and XL6 get expensive by Rs 26,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively.
The most popular compact off-roading compact SUV from Maruti Suzuki, the Jimny has started exports of 184 units to the Latin American nations. We had already reported earlier, that Maruti Suzuki wants to make India the manufacturing hub for its products to be exported to even the African countries and Middle-East. This is a 3-door version of the compact SUV. India will expectedly get the 5-door version of the Jimny. Once launched in India, it will try to be a natural competitor to the very popular and successful Mahindra Thar. Both of them will have a ladder-on-frame chassis to allow for more off-roading capabilities.
With their design and features, they both are trying to get into the lifestyle offroading segment. In the Auto Expo 2020, Jimny did attract a lot of attention and is also one of the popular products from Suzuki globally. Whether or not we see the Jimny on our roads this year, remains to be seen.
