MG Hector India Book of Records

MG Hector commenced sales in India back in 2019 while being the first internet SUV.

The popular MG Hector is celebrating its 5th anniversary in India. To commemorate the occasion, it entered the India Book of Records with a unique achievement. It set the record for the fastest drive from ‘Lowest to Highest Motorable Altitude’. Hector belongs to the premium mid-size SUV segment in our market. To be honest, the bifurcation between segments towards this end of the spectrum is a bit blurry. In any case, its direct rivals include the likes of the Tata Harrier, Mahindra XUV700, Kia Carens and Hyundai Alcazar. For now, let us take a look at the details of its latest accomplishment.

MG Hector Creates Record on its 5th Anniversary

The MG Hector commenced its legendary journey from Kuttanad (7-ft below sea level) in Kerala on July 27 starting at 1:30 PM and concluding at Umling La (19,024 feet above sea level) in Ladakh on July 30, 2024, at 8:28 AM. This marked an impressive 3,846 km distance in a mere 66 hours and 58 minutes. With this, the MG Hector concluded the “Fastest Drive from the Lowest to the Highest Altitude on Road,” feat in the prestigious India Book of Records. This is a testament to the bold stance, decent ground clearance and solid build quality of the SUV. The MG Hector comes with some pretty enticing amenities including:

  • India’s Largest 14-inch HD Portrait Infotainment System
  • First-in-Segment Digital Bluetooth Key and Key Sharing Capability
  • 75 i-Smart Connected Car Tech Features with 100 Voice Commands
  • Navigation with Voice Recognition in 5 Indian Languages
  • 50+ Hinglish Commands
  • Infinity Premium Audio System
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Dual Pane Panoramic Sunroof
  • Front Ventilated Seats
  • Air Purifier
  • OTA (Over-the-air) Updates
  • 6 Airbags

  • Traction Control System (TCS)
  • Hill Assist Control (HAC)
  • Level 2 ADAS
  • Electric Parking Brake

In terms of specifications, the MG Hector comes with a 2.0-litre turbo diesel engine which is good for a familiar 170 PS and 350 Nm of peak power and torque. This mill pairs with a sole 6-speed manual transmission. In addition to this one could even select a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine which outputs a healthy 143 PS and 250 Nm of peak power and torque. This engine can be accompanied by either a 6-speed manual or a CVT automatic gearbox. If you wish to get your hands on one, you need to shell out anywhere between Rs 13.99 lakh and Rs 22.24 lakh, ex-showroom.
