The ongoing war between Tata and MG has escalated. The new graphic calls the Tata Tiago EV a taxi in comparison to the MG Comet.

Tata and MG have entered a roast battle online. Both companies have launched graphics taking digs at MG Comet and Tata Tiago EV, respectively. It all started when a Tata Motors dealer released a graphic to endorse the Tata Tiago EV. It claims that the new EV comes with a claimed driving range of 315 km on a single charge. However, it also had a picture of the recently-launched MG Comet with the caption – Own a car, not a cartoon. The MG Motor further escalated the beef with aggressive digs.

MG Comet Promotions Take a Dig at Tata Tiago EV

As you can see, MG Motor released multiple graphics to highlight the charging cost of Comet EV which is claimed to be just Rs 519 per month. However, these graphics also featured the Tata Tiago EV and witty captions. While one caption read, ‘Drive something sexy and say TATA to taxi’, the other says ‘Tech (Comet) or taxi (Tiago EV). Another graphic called the Tata Tiago EV is old fashioned with the tagline – ‘New cool or old schoolโ€™. Additional digs include โ€˜Just overtake, haters gonna hateโ€™ and New age or ice ageโ€™.

While some users are calling the new back-and-forth a cheap exchange, this is an age-old practice. There is a long history of popular brands taking public digs at their competitors. With social media, the speed of replies has essentially turned into a roast battle. It is very entertaining for viewers and also benefits both brands by raising awareness. As EVs are still new to the Indian market, any publicity is good. It remains to be seen how far Tata and MG will go.

MG Comet vs Tata Tiago EV Specs Comparison

The MG Comet is the smallest passenger car in the Indian market. It features a two-door four-seater design. The new EV is backed by an IP67 rated 17.3 kWh Li-ion battery pack that powers the front wheels. The electric motor outputs 42 PS of power and 110 Nm of torque. The electric car is claimed to travel up to 230 km on a single charge. It can be fully charged in seven hours. With a 3.3 kW charger, you can go from 10 to 80 percent in five hours. The MG Comet comes with a starting price of Rs 7.98 lakh (introductory).

On the other hand, the Tata Tiago EV is backed by a 24 kWh battery pack. It comes with a claimed range of up to 315 km. The electric motor produces 74 hp and 114 Nm of peak power and torque. The standard AC charger takes up to 9 hours to charge the electric car. With the DC fast charger, you can go from 10% to 100% in just 58 mins. The company also offers a 19.2 kWh battery version that produces 60 hp/ 110 Nm output and a range of 250 km. The compact hatchback is priced in India at Rs 8.69 lakh – Rs. 11.99 lakh (ex-showroom).
