The Indian auto giant loves to revive iconic monikers, as indicated by Safari and Sierra
A prominent digital artist has devised a rather compelling virtual rendition of the new-gen Tata Sumo. We know that Tata Motors recently launched the Sierra. Previously, Tata Motors launched the Safari back in 2021. Clearly, the auto giant wants to leverage the history and legacy associated with its old models. Sumo is one such nameplate which has been an iconic product throughout the 1990s and 2000s. It was generally used as a passenger carrier and commercial vehicle across the nation.
New-Gen Tata Sumo Rendering
The specifics of this post stem from thebikerman_ on Instagram. The artist has imbibed the essence of the Tata Sumo and given it a modern spin. As a result, we get this compelling illustration. At the front, it carries a sleek grille section with compact LED headlamps with integrated LED DRLs. In all honesty, I feel like the headlamp design is somewhat similar to what the Jeep Compass offers. Apart from that, the lower section contains a solid bumper with a rugged skid plate underneath and black components on the edges of the bumper. The upright bonnet lends a rather butch demeanour to the SUV.
Moving to the sides reveals a creaseless silhouette with simple body panels, but exciting alloy wheels. Also, the large wheel arches encapsulate the large wheels without any fuss. I would’ve loved to see black cladding around the wheel arches instead of the body-coloured sections. Also, the side section gets black side pillars. Finally, the tail section contains a roof-mounted spoiler, a tailgate-mounted spare wheel with covering, an upright stance with a boxy silhouette, a compact bumper, sleek LED taillamps and a sturdy skid plate. Overall, I would love to see something like this on the road someday.
My View
Digital artists keep on demonstrating their creativity in the absence of physical limitations, as a result of which we keep coming across such enticing iterations of popular cars. I wish to keep bringing similar instances for our readers to break the monotony and expand our horizons. It will be interesting to see if the Indian automobile firm decides to introduce the Sumo in a new avatar for our market in the coming years.

Tata Motors’ renewed focus on legacy nameplates is a smart emotional play in today’s nostalgia-driven market, but reviving Sumo would need far more than just a familiar badge. The original Sumo thrived on toughness, space and utility, values that still resonate strongly in semi-urban and rural India. If Tata can reinterpret those strengths with modern safety, emissions compliance and SUV appeal, Sumo could carve a unique space below the Safari. The intent is promising; execution will be everything.
