The pickup truck iteration of the famed SUV has been nearing its launch
In this post, we take a look at the specifics of the Mahindra Scorpio N pickup, which was spied road testing recently. We know that it has been on test for a while now. The Scorpio N has achieved incredible success in our market in the last few years. Looking at its appeal, the Indian auto giant has decided to launch a more rugged pickup version. Now, India is not a huge pickup truck market. Still, the Indian car marque aims to change that. For now, let us check out the kind of amenities we can expect from the upcoming lifestyle pickup truck.
Mahindra Scorpio N Pickup Spotted
This post stems from xuv700scorpionownersclub on Instagram. The visuals capture the heavily camouflaged pickup truck plying on the road. We witness the front, side and rear profiles amidst heavy traffic. It was actually recorded by a driver in the adjacent lane. At the front, the vehicle carries pop-out headlamps, suggesting a temporary setup. The grille design also gives hints of resemblance to the Scorpio N. On the sides, the pickup is fitted with steel wheels and noticeable wheel arches. The presence of steel wheels further suggests that this could be a base-level variant.
Towards the end of the clip, the rear of the vehicle becomes visible. It features a large cargo bed paired with simple-looking taillamps. A closer look also reveals side steps, added to make entry and exit easier for passengers. One detail that stood out was the rugged element on the rear bumper, giving the vehicle a tougher stance. Taken as a whole, the design and road presence appear intended to rival the Toyota Hilux, a pickup that, despite its strong reputation, has not been performing particularly well in terms of sales.
Expected Specs
Although Mahindra has not officially confirmed details about the pickup, it is likely to share its engine and gearbox options with the Scorpio N. This points to a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder mStallion turbo petrol motor that delivers 200 PS and 380 Nm, along with a 2.2-litre 4-cylinder mHawk turbo diesel. The diesel will be offered in two states of tune – one making 132 PS and 300 Nm, and the other producing 175 PS and 400 Nm. Both powertrains will come with the choice of manual as well as automatic gearboxes. Higher trims are also expected to feature a dedicated 4×4 setup. Complete details will only be disclosed at the time of launch.
