The Victoris is based on the Grand Vitara but will be sold under the Arena dealership network of Maruti Suzuki
Maruti Suzuki Indian Limited (MSIL) has launched the new Victoris for the Indian market. It will be positioned between the Brezza and Grand Vitara in Maruti Suzuki’s portfolio. Interestingly, there is a minor price gap between the two, which the Indo-Japanese car marque aims to plug with this new launch. Since it will be sold under the Arena division (with over 3,000 outlets nationwide), it will be priced quite appropriately. With this, Maruti further diversifies its SUV range, which is critical in an SUV-lover market like India. At the moment, it looks like no amount of SUVs is enough. For now, let us take a look at the details of this new SUV.
Maruti Victoris – Specs
As expected, the new Maruti Victoris borrows the powertrain and transmission options from the Grand Vitara. Although no specific announcements have been made, we can assume that it will carry a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder naturally mild-hybrid petrol mill which is capable of churning out a decent 103 PS and 139 Nm of maximum power and torque, respectively. This engine pairs with a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. This variant also offers an all-wheel-drive configuration for off-roading excursions. On the other hand, there is also a 1.5-litre strong hybrid petrol engine, which is good for 116 PS and 141 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively. With this, the SUV gets an e-CVT automatic transmission. It will be for those who want the best fuel efficiency from their cars. Finally, it will even offer a CNG version with the 1.5-litre NA mill, producing 87 PS and 121 Nm with a 5-speed manual gearbox. Hence, buyers get the option to choose between various combinations as per their individual requirements.

Exterior and Design
The new Maruti Victoris boasts a modern design to attract a new lot of customers. At the front, it gets a prominent LED DRL setup which is connected via a chrome belt with the Suzuki logo in the middle. The LED headlamps are positioned just below the DRLs, while the lower section contains a rugged bumper with a skid plate. On the sides, the most attractive element has to be the squared wheel arches with black cladding, neatly embodying the elegant dual-tone alloy wheels. Apart from that, there are roof rails, black side pillars and a distinct rear overhang. Finally, the tail end contains a connected LED taillamp, a shark fin antenna, a roof-mounted spoiler and a sporty bumper with a sturdy skid plate. Overall, the SUV certainly bears an imposing road presence, something Indian buyers appreciate a lot.
My View
The largest automaker in the country knows the sensibilities of Indian customers. It has been at the top of the sales charts for around 3 decades now. Knowing the preferences of consumers, it tries to leverage its expertise to come up with distinct products. The Victoris is a prime example of that. Even though Maruti already sells a mid-size SUV in the form of the Grand Vitara, it still wants to grab more market share by offering a slightly more affordable option. While it remains to be seen how well the potential buyers embrace this new SUV, I must admit the proposition looks quite promising. We are awaiting the price announcement.
