Maruti Suzuki has expanded its footprint in our market with a new mid-size SUV based on the Grand Vitara
In this post, we compare the newly launched Maruti Victoris with its donor model, the Grand Vitara. It is not often that we see one carmaker have two distinct products in the same category. But the largest auto giant in the country is known for that. The fundamental difference between these two SUVs is that while the Grand Vitara is sold under the Nexa division of Maruti Suzuki, the Victoris will be available via the Arena dealerships. Maruti Victoris vs Grand Vitara – Specs and Mileage
Now, this is one aspect where the two SUVs are identical since the new Maruti Victoris is spawned out of the Grand Vitara. It carries three powertrain options – a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder naturally aspirated mild-hybrid petrol, a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder naturally aspirated strong-hybrid petrol and a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder Bi-fuel (petrol + CNG). These generate a decent 103 PS / 139 Nm, 116 PS / 141 Nm and 87 PS / 121 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively. With the mild hybrid mill, the SUV offers two alternatives – a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. With the CNG, there is a sole 5-speed manual transmission on offer, while the strong hybrid is only available with the e-CVT automatic gearbox. For occasional off-roading excursions, the mild hybrid version can also be had with the ALLGRIP SELECT AWD configuration. In this trim, one can choose from various terrain modes – Snow, Sport, Lock and Auto.
Now, the Maruti Grand Vitara also carries identical engine and transmission options. Hence, we don’t need to reiterate that. What is interesting are the mileage figures. We know that Maruti cars offer some of the best mileage numbers regardless of which segment Maruti operates in. Maruti claims a fuel efficiency of 21.18 km/l (MT), 21.06 km/l (AT), 19.07 km/l (AWD), 27.02 km/kg (CNG) and 28.65 km/l (Strong Hybrid) with the new Victoris. These are some impressive stats. On the other hand, with the Grand Vitara, these values are 21.11 km/l (MT), 20.58 km/l (AT), 19.20 km/l (AWD), 26.6 km/kg (CNG) and 27.97 km/l (Strong Hybrid). Hence, the Victoris has a slight edge in this regard.

Design and Dimensions Comparison
Finally, let us discuss the kind of styling on offer on these SUVs. Even though these are essentially the same SUVs, there is a distinct design for each of them. The new Maruti Victoris comes with a fresh design to appeal to modern buyers. At the front, it features striking LED DRLs joined by a chrome strip carrying the Suzuki badge in the middle. The LED headlamps sit just below the DRLs, while the bottom houses a tough bumper with a skid plate. On the sides, the highlight is the squared wheel arches with black cladding that frame the stylish dual-tone alloy wheels. Adding to the look are roof rails, darkened side pillars, and a sharp rear overhang. At the back, it gets a connected LED taillight, a shark-fin antenna, a spoiler on the roof, and a sporty bumper with a protective skid plate. All in all, the SUV delivers a bold stance on the road, something Indian car buyers truly value.
On the other hand, the Maruti Grand Vitara also bears a modern styling. On the edge of the bonnet, it sports tri-unit LED DRLs, while the main LED headlamps sit on the bumper edges. At the centre, there is a large grille with a chrome Suzuki logo, along with a strong skid plate for a bold road stance. From the side, the look is enhanced by stylish alloy wheels, roof rails, and protective body cladding. Moving to the rear, it comes with connected LED tail lamps joined by a glass strip across the width. Overall, the SUV stands out as one of the most premium vehicles from Maruti Suzuki in India.

My View
Now, choosing between these two compelling propositions can be quite tricky. Unfortunately, Maruti Suzuki has not announced the prices of the new Victoris just yet. As a consequence, we will have to wait for that before coming to any conclusion. Nevertheless, I must admit that both these products are incredibly appealing. Hence, you can’t go wrong with either of these.
