The new Duster marks its entry into the highly competitive mid-size SUV segment after a hiatus of around 4 years
The mileage figures of the new Renault Duster have been revealed. Duster is the newest entrant into the massively diverse mid-size SUV category in India. Note that the original Duster was the vehicle which led to the creation of this space back in 2012, to begin with. Ever since then, almost all major carmakers have commenced selling cars in this segment. Recognizing the immense opportunity to expand its footprint even further, the French car marque has launched the latest Duster, keeping in mind Indian sensibilities. For now, let us take a look at the details of its fuel efficiency numbers.
New Renault Duster Mileage Revealed
As per the official press release, the new Renault Duster boasts a mileage of 18.45 km/l in the DCT automatic and 17.75 km/l with the 6-speed manual gearbox. These are some pretty healthy figures, especially compared to the vehicles in this segment. For reference, the new Kia Seltos turbo petrol returns a mileage of 17.7 km/l in the iMT and 17.9 km/l with the DCT version. The Hyundai Creta has a claimed mileage of 18.4 km/l, while, as per an RTI filed by a concerned person recently, the Tata Sierra offers a mileage of around 13.5 km/l. Hence, the Duster is definitely among the better models in this space in comparison.
The new Renault Duster is available with multiple powertrain alternatives – a 1.3-litre turbo petrol direct injection, a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol and a 1.8-litre strong hybrid mill. These are good for 163 PS / 280 Nm and 100 PS / 166 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively. There manual and automatic transmissions to choose from. Note that the strong hybrid mill will be launched at a later stage, which is why we will get to know more about its specifications. Currently, the prices of the new Duster range from Rs 10.49 lakh and Rs 18.69 lakh, ex-showroom. In terms of equipment, the mid-size SUV is loaded to the brim, too. Some of the major attractions are:

From my perspective, the new Renault Dusterโs claimed mileage figures signal a well-thought-out comeback strategy in one of Indiaโs most fiercely contested segments. What stands out to me is how Renault has balanced performance-oriented turbo petrol options with competitive efficiency, positioning the Duster right alongside established players like the Creta and Seltos. In a market where fuel economy often influences buying decisions as much as features, this move could significantly strengthen Dusterโs appeal. However, the real test will be how these figures translate in real-world conditions and how Renault prices the upcoming strong hybrid variant.
