To start with, Hyundai will most likely drop the Xcent name and give this car a brand new name. That is because the Xcent has become quite synonymous with taxi fleet operators and that has been affecting personal buying of the Xcent. In fact, 50% of the sales of the Xcent comes from the taxi fleet. So the new car will most likely sport a new name. The current one, however, will be updated and will be sold specifically to the taxi fleet operators.

Second-gen Hyundai Xcent rear profile

As can be seen from the spy shots, the new Hyundai Xcent has a completely redesigned face. The ‘cascading grille’ seems to have grown even bigger with honeycomb inserts and the bumper too has been completely resigned with a wider chin and new intakes. The fog lamp housing now sits vertically on the bumper. Also, there are boomerang-shaped LED DRLs on either side of the grille, a rather awkward place though. The headlamps seem unchanged but higher spec models could get LED projector units.

Moving on to the sides, the Xcent remains largely unchanged in profile. It carries the same three-box design and always has been quite proportionate at that indeed. At the rear, there will be warp around tail lights, extending up to the boot lid. Also, like most new Hyundai’s at the rear, the license plate number has been shifted down to the bumper and it would just be the name of the car taking center stage on the boot lid.

On the inside, the new Hyundai Xcent will share most of the interiors with the upcoming Grand i10, its hatchback sibling. It will also get the steering wheel we saw in the Venue and a large 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, similar to the one seen on the Venue. It will of course be Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatible and will also have Hyundai’s BlueLink connected car tech. Moreover, Hyundai will offer different colour options for the seats with better quality materials, and a rear armrest with separate headrests for second row passengers.

In terms of powertrain options, the new Hyundai Xcent will be powered by the 1.2-litre Kappa petrol engine as well as the U2 1.2-litre diesel motor. The petrol engine will come mated with an AMT gearbox option instead of the 4-speed torque converter offered in the current-gen model. It will take on the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, the Honda Amaze, the Ford Figo Aspire and the Tata Tigor.
