Nissan Announces 3 New Cars for India

The Japanese car marque announced the name of the upcoming B-MPV, Gravite

Nissan Motor India shared the plans for brand resurgence with 3 new cars in just over 12 months for our market. These include a 7-seat B-MPV, which it has revealed will be called the Gravite, a Tekton mid-size SUV and a new 7-seat C-SUV. The product offensive strategy is kicking in to compete in the rapidly expanding Indian automobile market. The Gravite will be launched in January 2026 with deliveries slated to commence in March 2026, the Tekton will be launched in February 2026 at the brand resurgence event and the 7-seat SUV will arrive in Q4 of FY26-27 (first quarter of CY2027). Additionally, Nissan plans to expand its footprint in India to over 200 touchpoints by the end of FY26-27, up from 155 at present.

Interestingly, the new Nissan Gravite will be the first launch out of these 3 products. During the announcement event, Nissan showcased a few glimpses of what the MPV will look like. At the front, it gets a striking LED lighting setup with a full-width LED strip culminating in LED DRLs on either side, flanking the LED headlamps, a broad grille section with gloss black finish, a rather sporty bumper, Gravite lettering, and a lean and muscular bonnet with contours. Moving to the rear, the Gravite offers an upright stance, LED taillamps connected via a chrome belt with the Nissan logo on it, sculpted shoulder lines and an adventurous bumper, giving it a SUV-ish appeal. The initial glimpses of the silhouette certainly capture a fresh design.

As expected, the details regarding the features, powertrains and transmissions were not discussed in the meeting because it was only meant to be the name-reveal ceremony. Still, there was enough information regarding the direction the brand is taking to establish itself as a prominent player in India in the coming years. The team even mentioned that India continues to remain an eminent and crucial base for manufacturing for Nissan. Note that Nissan exports cars to around 65 nations from India, which speaks volumes about our production prowess and capabilities. More details will emerge in the coming days.

My View

Nissan has been lagging behind on the sales charts in the past couple of years due to a lack of a wide product portfolio. However, all that is about to change now with 3 new cars within a short span of time. With the rising competition in every segment, it becomes imperative to offer compelling vehicles to grab more market share. That is exactly what Nissan is planning for the future. We shall experience more details in the coming months, not just regarding the new models, but also about how the brand plans to shape things going forward.
