Nissan Magnite CNG vs Maruti Fronx CNG Comparison

Nissan has launched the CNG iteration of its popular Magnite compact SUV to cater to a wide range of customers

In this post, we take a look at the specifics of the comparison between the new Nissan Magnite CNG and the Maruti Fronx CNG. Nissan has been doing a decent job on the sales charts in India. Noticeably, Magnite has been the major contributor to the overall sales. Not only that, the Japanese auto giant even exports it to many parts of the world, from India. Hence, it is a key product in Nissan’s India lineup. On the other hand, the Maruti Fronx CNG is an extremely successful car in India. For now, let us compare the two.

Nissan Magnite CNG vs Maruti Fronx CNG – Price

Nissan has announced that the prices of the CNG trims of the Magnite will bear a premium of Rs 74,999 on the ex-showroom costs over the standard model. Also, it will be available only with the regular 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol mill with manual transmission and not the turbo. Hence, the prices of the CNG range start at Rs 6.89 lakh for the Visia and go all the way up to Rs 10.02 lakh, ex-showroom for the Tekna Plus trim. On the other hand, the Maruti Fronx CNG ranges from Rs 8.49 lakh to Rs 9.36 lakh, ex-showroom.

Nissan Magnite CNG vs Maruti Fronx CNG – Specs

Note that Nissan is offering a government-approved CNG retrofitment kit for the Magnite. It is fully developed, manufactured, and Quality Assured by Motozen (3rd party) as per the Regulatory Standards. Furthermore, the fitment of these kits will take place at government-authorized fitment centres. These kits will have a warranty of 3 years or 1 lakh km, whichever is earlier. In Phase 1, the customers can order the CNG kit installation via Nissan authorized dealers in 7 states – Delhi-NCR, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Kerala and Karnataka. The other parts of the country will be incorporated in Phase 2. We are yet to know about the specifics of the power, torque, mileage, etc.

On the other hand, the Maruti Fronx is available with a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol or a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine. However, the CNG avatar can only be had with the former, in which case, the power and torque outputs are 78 PS and 99 Nm, respectively. Nevertheless, the biggest talking point is the unbelievable mileage of 28.51 km/kg. That is why people opt for CNG cars. We will need to wait for the official details regarding the Magnite CNG to have a thorough comparison.

My View

The starting price of the Nissan Magnite CNG is quite attractive. I feel it is great for those who just want low running costs from their vehicles and are ready to compromise on the features. Also, the top trim is quite feature-loaded. On the other hand, the Fronx CNG’s top trim doesn’t offer all the bells and whistles in comparison to the top version of the petrol model. Still, there are enough amenities to attract buyers. In any case, we will need to wait to know all the details before making the purchase decision.
