Nissan Magnite CNG vs Tata Punch CNG Comparison

The CNG iteration of the Nissan Magnite is now on sale in India, which makes things exciting for the potential buyers in this space

In this post, we offer a comparison between the new Nissan Magnite CNG and the Tata Punch CNG. These two are quite popular vehicles even in their ICE guises. However, since the competition is quite severe, companies want to ensure that the buyers get all sorts of options to choose from. Magnite has attained decent success in our market ever since its launch back in 2020. In fact, it has been driving the brand single-handedly. On the other hand, the Tata Punch has done exceedingly well for the Indian auto giant for the last couple of years. For now, let us check out the main attractions of the CNG versions of these two cars.

Nissan Magnite CNG vs Tata Punch CNG – Price

The Nissan Magnite CNG is available from the Visia trim to the Tekna Plus variant. In general, the CNG variants command a premium of Rs 74,999 over their corresponding petrol versions. Also, it is only available in a single engine-transmission combination – 1.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol with manual gearbox. The prices range from Rs 6.89 lakh to Rs 10.02 lakh, ex-showroom. On the other hand, the Tata Punch CNG retails between Rs 7.30 lakh for the Pure trim and Rs 9.17 lakh, ex-showroom, for the Adventure Plus S version.

Nissan Magnite CNG vs Tata Punch CNG – Specs

The Japanese auto giant is yet to announce the specific details regarding the power, torque and mileage of the CNG-powered Magnite. What we already know, however, is the fact that it is using a government-approved CNG retrofitment kit, which can be fitted at the government-authorized fitment centres. What is important to note is that there is a warranty of 3 years or 1 lakh km, whichever is earlier, on these kits. Furthermore, the customers need to order this kit from Nissan authorized dealers. In Phase 1, the customers can order the CNG kit installation via Nissan authorized dealers in 7 states – Delhi-NCR, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Kerala and Karnataka. The other parts of the country will be incorporated in Phase 2.

On the other hand, the Tata Punch CNG comes equipped with a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder naturally aspirated engine with a bi-fuel (petrol + CNG) option, which is good for 73.5 PS and 103 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively. This mill is available with a 5-speed manual transmission. In this configuration, the claimed mileage is a healthy 26.99 km/kg. More details about the Magnite CNG will emerge in the coming days, which is when things will become clearer.

My View

Choosing between these two compelling propositions can be quite tricky. Both these carry the title of being extremely value for money in this segment. In fact, that is how the Nissan Magnite attracted buyers. In terms of the CNG mills, the starting price of the Magnite CNG is much more attractive than the Punch CNG. However, toward the higher end, the Punch CNG has the edge. In any case, I would encourage our readers to experience both of these in the flesh before making the purchase decision.
