Ola Electric Scooter Owner Calls Donkey More Reliable

The cases of complaints against the electric scooter company keep on rising

In a hilarious turn of events, an Ola Electric scooter owner expressed his dissatisfaction with the EV after encountering issues. Ola Electric is one of the biggest names in the electric scooter category in India. Although the company was founded back in 2017, it launched its first EV in 2021. In the last 4 years, it has sold hundreds of thousands of units across the nation. However, there have been quite a significant amount of complaints and issues with its products as well. For now, let us check out the details of one such case in point.

Ola Electric Scooter Owner Calls Donkey More Reliable

This video stems from aasim_vlogs09 on Instagram. It captures a detailed description of a man who is evidently frustrated with the brand. He brings a donkey at the Ola service centre and makes it stand alongside his father’s defected Ola Electric scooter. Funnily enough, he begins the video by mentioning that here is a Diwali offer. He jokingly says that you will get a donkey free with the purchase of an Ola EV. However, he goes on to ridicule the latter by saying that while the donkey will always be by your side, the electric scooter can leave you stranded anywehre. This comes after he faced problems with the battery of the EV.

He even goes on to put a garland of flowers around the neck of the donkey to highlight its importance. On the other hand, he wraps the handle of the electric scooter with a garland made out of slippers and shoes. Clearly, this is done to prove his anger towards the brand. Furthermore, he explains that his father’s scooter had been sitting in the service centre for 2 months. While initially, the company officials allegedly confirmed that the defected battery will be replaced under warranty, they later went on to say that they will only repair it. The host of the video mentions that the dealership asked him to leave the scooter in the workshop for 4 months for them to repair the battery. This would understandably make any customer mad.

My View

This is yet another case in point where the quality assurance of the Bengaluru-based EV startup has come into question. I have reported numerous instances of electric scooter owners voicing their issues with the products. In fact, the man in this video is urging the government to intervene and hold the brand accountable. We know that a show cause notice was sent to Ola last year over alleged consumer rights violations. Let us keep an eye out to see whether or not we will be able to see any action against the company this time around.

Having closely tracked India’s EV transition, I can say Ola’s journey has been a mix of bold ambition and recurring quality lapses. While its scooters have undeniably pushed mass EV adoption, such incidents highlight persistent gaps in after-sales support and reliability. The Indian two-wheeler buyer values consistency over gimmicks – and unless Ola addresses these core trust issues, it risks losing early mover advantage to emerging, more dependable rivals.
