mahindra scorpio n australia review

You would be surprised to know that the prices of the Mahindra Scorpio N in Australia and SA are lower than in India. It is hard to believe that we are paying higher taxes on our vehicles compared to the import duties of many other countries. That makes these prices lower in these markets despite them being exported from India. Mahindra is a prominent player in the Australian and South African markets. People are embracing the Indian carmaker more and more, particularly in the last few years. They value the legacy of the Scorpio moniker. Let us take a look at the details in this post.

Prices of Mahindra Scorpio N in Australia and SA

In India, the on-road price of the top Diesel AT 4×4 model of the Mahindra Scorpio N is Rs 29.61 lakh in New Delhi. This already makes it one of the most expensive SUVs in this segment. However, the price for the same variant in Australia is $45,990 AUD (approx. Rs 24.40 lakh). In fact, in the South African market, you could drive away the same model for R604,999 (approx. Rs 26.82 lakh). This might come as a shock to a lot of people. But it just highlights that we are paying exorbitant taxes on the base price of the cars in India.

Specs

The Mahindra Scorpio N provides a choice of two engines – a 2.2-litre turbo diesel and a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine. These engines come with different power outputs, ranging from 132 PS (diesel), 175 PS (diesel), to 200 PS (petrol), and they also offer varying peak torque figures โ€“ 300 Nm (diesel), 400 Nm (diesel), and 380 Nm (petrol), respectively. Buyers can opt for either a 6-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic transmission. Furthermore, the higher-end models offer the added benefit of a 4×4 setup (4XPLOR), significantly improving the vehicle’s off-road capabilities. The ex-showroom prices for the Scorpio N range from Rs 13.26 lakh to Rs 24.54 lakh.

What We Think

We appreciate the fact that our Indian company is doing so well overseas. With products like the Scorpio N and XUV700, Mahindra is aiming to move away from the tag of being an agricultural player. These SUVs represent the future of the brand. But it is still a bit disappointing that Indians are not able to experience these vehicles at as affordable prices as in some other markets. We can only hope that things change in this regard. But in our opinion, it is highly unlikely since this has been the trend for a long time now.
