Based on an offspring of the Land Rover Discovery’s L550 architecture, the Tata Harrier has a clear link with the Range Rover family but this modification makes the relation even deeper!

The Tata Harrier is easily the best weโ€™ve seen from Tata Motors to date. The 5-seater SUV has impressed many with its looks, powerful engine, Hyundai-sourced automatic transmission and great dynamics that are a result of the Land Rover Discovery-sourced L550 platform. Yes, thereโ€™s a clear relation between the Harrier and the entry-level Land Rover but today, weโ€™ve got images of a modified Harrier that takes the Tata-JLR relation to the next level. Ladies and gentlemen, meet the Range Rover-inspired Tata Harrier R-Edition!

Customized by SRT Tata, the authorized dealership of Tata Motors in Coimbatore, the Harrier R-Edition has a bright red paint finish inspired from the Range Rover Evoque. It also gets the black-red dual tone colour combination. It must be noted that the Evoque is built on the same L550 platform whose derivative has underpinned the Harrier. The SUV even gets a new set of alloy wheels that look a tad more stylish than one from the factory. The entire customization job costs Rs 2 lakh. While the latest version of the Harrier is available in the red-black dual-tone option, the custom job done above definitely looks better. A reason for this is that the plastic cladding in the lower section of the SUV has been painted in the body colour instead of being left unpainted, as is the case in the stock model. The video we have above even gives us a look at the interior of the Tata Harrier R-Edition and it’s clear that the cabin has been left untouched.

Currently, the Harrier is being sold in a price range of Rs 14.39 – 21.19 Lakh (ex-showroom). It is powered by a Fiat-sourced 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel motor that goes on to produce a maximum power of 170PS and a peak torque of 350Nm. Earlier, this engine offered only 140PS and 320Nm but was updated back when the car got a minor facelift. The modified Tata Harrier R-Edition you see above is based on the pre-facelift version.

Currently, the Tata Harrier goes on to rival a range of SUVs including everything from a Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos to a Mahindra XUV700 and MG Hector. The latest model is being sold in 6 variants – XM, XT, XT+, XZ, and XZ+. Additionally, the SUV is even on sale in a Dark Edition.
