toyota rumion glanza sales growth

The joint venture between Maruti Suzuki and Toyota is quite known in India as we keep witnessing badge-engineered products every now and then.

The Maruti badge-engineered products like the Rumion and Glanza helped Toyota achieve incredible growth on the sales charts. Up until a few years ago, Toyota was driving most of its sales just from the Innova Crysta and Fortuner. Additionally, there were also cars like the Etios and Etios Liva which contributed to the overall sales. However, after its collaboration with Maruti Suzuki, it started offering badge-engineered products. Thereafter, the sales of Toyota cars skyrocketed. Let us take a look at the details of this case here.

Toyota Rumion and Glanza’s Contribution to Overall Sales

As per the official sales data for the month of September 2023, Toyota was able to sell 22,168 cars. This marks a significant 44.2% growth on a year-on-year basis. In the month of September 2022, it managed to sell just 15,378 cars. In fact, it sold 20,970 cars in August 2023. The sales in September were 5.7% higher even on a monthly basis. In the last year, there are even more Maruti-sourced products in Toyota’s lineup. The most prominent among these are the Glaza, Rumion and Urban Cruiser. These are badge-engineered versions of the Baleno, Ertiga and Brezza, respectively.

In the CNG variant, the engine produces 88 PS and 121 Nm of peak power and torque, with an impressive mileage of 26.1 km/kg. What We Think

We have seen, over the years, just how powerful this collaboration has been for Toyota. Its sales have increased a lot compared to what they were a few years ago. Therefore, we understand the relevance of such a partnership. On the other hand, Maruti has also benefitted from this joint venture. It is borrowing technology from Toyota for its latest strong hybrid cars. We have seen this in the case of the Maruti Invicto. It is a badge-engineered version of the Toyota Innova Hycross. Hence, both auto giants experienced growth from this tie-up. The growth due to the Toyota Rumion and Glanza is a testament to that.
