Royal Enfield might reveal its electric motorcycle ‘E’ on September 1, 2023. RE is the biggest two-wheeler manufacturer in India above the 250-cc segment. It has been making the Bullet and Classic series of bikes for decades now. Still, the craze the new bike buyers have for these products is unfathomable. Despite changing these bikes little by little over the years, the overall retro design and mannerisms are still intact. That is the charm of these motorcycles, to begin with. Going forward, the Chennai-based two-wheeler giant is about to make a shift to electrification. Here are the details.

Royal Enfield has announced that it will reveal a few products on September 1, 2023. These could be the 350 Series bike. However, there are numerous reports floating around which indicate that there might be a few more models accompanying it. In fact, these might well be concept units representing the future of the brand. One of these models could be the Royal Enfield E. Now, it shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that the Indian two-wheeler giant is heading toward electrification. It has already announced that a few times.

However, what would be interesting to see is if we get the first proper glimpse of an electric concept from RE on September 1. 2023. The parent company Eicher Motors have plans to invest around Rs 1,000 Crore in FY2023-24. Most of this amount is bifurcated for dedicated EVs. In fact, RE also confirmed that the company has already hired around 100 people to make electric motorcycles within the next couple of years. Hence, we might see the production version of the Royal Enfield E by 2025/26.

What We Think

There is no denying that almost all automobile companies are pivoting their businesses toward electrification. This is true for four-wheeler and two-wheeler companies. Therefore, a prominent player like Royal Enfield is bound to be in the thick of things when the industry transforms to electric vehicles. Having ambitious plans already indicates that RE is well on its way to manufacture electric bikes quite soon. We must also mention that there are new players emerging in this space like Ola and Ultraviolette. If the legacy two-wheeler giants don’t move quickly enough, they might lag behind in the electric race to the future.
