The Indian auto giant is planning some key launches to expand its footprint in the market, amidst stiff competition
The upcoming Tata Sierra was recently spotted testing alongside another camouflaged product, which appears to be the Altroz EV. We know that Tata Motors has been trying to hold on to its impressive sales numbers despite increased competition, particularly from its indigenous rival, Mahindra. Tata operates in all major segments of the market. However, it wants to expand that with the new Sierra. The SUV was showcased at the Auto Expo earlier this year. Apart from that, Tata Motors is also the largest EV maker in the country. With the Altroz EV, it would want to add yet another product to its EV portfolio.
Tata Sierra Seen with Altroz EV
This post stems from greatindianmotor on Instagram. The visuals capture footage of the two vehicles being tested on public roads, one after the other. They are wearing thick camouflage, a common practice among carmakers. I have been reporting about the spy media related to the Sierra for a while now. It is official that we will have the Sierra in petrol, diesel and electric iterations. The debut of the EV is slated for next month (November), while the ICE trims will most likely arrive in January 2026. No wonder the SUV is being tested rigorously. It could bear a 1.5-litre petrol (in NA and turbo versions) and a 2.0-litre turbo diesel mill.
However, what I found interesting was the second car, which was spotted. Going by the silhouette, it appears to be the Altroz. Now, since the facelift model was launched only a few months ago, my guess is that it is the electric avatar. Tata Motors has been teasing the electric Altroz for a while now. Nevertheless, the launch has eluded us for the longest time for various reasons. I expect the electric Altroz to bear almost the identical styling as the ICE version. Obviously, there will be a few changes to distinguish the two. Details regarding the electric powertrain, batteries and range will surface in the coming weeks.
My View
In recent times, the Indian automobile market has become immensely competitive. As a result, carmakers need to be on their toes to stay in the minds of the customers. Tata Motors already sells cars in just about every segment. Hence, it has a wide range of cars in its portfolio. This is true for ICE, as well as the EV space. Going forward, we can expect it to continue to operate in this fashion with even more new products. Let us keep an eye out for more details in this regard.

As someone who has closely tracked Tata Motors’ evolution for over a decade, I see the Sierra and Altroz EV as crucial pillars in the brand’s next growth phase. The Sierra nameplate has strong nostalgic value, and if executed well, it could give Tata a serious edge in the premium SUV space. At the same time, the Altroz EV has the potential to strengthen Tata’s already dominant foothold in the electric segment. In an increasingly crowded market, these launches will be instrumental in helping Tata retain its momentum against Mahindra and other rivals.
