An inspiring story of a specially-abled couple shows a uniquely modified Hyundai Ioniq 5 which allows them to drive everywhere independently. This special modification is part of Hyundai’s Samarth initiative which caters to the needs of the specially-abled people around us. The world is full of inspirational tales. Some people lead exemplary lives after refusing to give in to their circumstances. I understand that there are very few people who are able to keep a strong mind and power through what seem like insurmountable odds. But every once in a while, we do come across such unique and strong personalities. I believe that we should never miss an opportunity to learn from such instances.
Specially-Abled Couple Modify Their Hyundai Ioniq 5
The details of this post stem from NDTV on YouTube. Anoop Chandan (40) and Nehal Thakkar (36) have been married for over 6 years now. Nehal manages an event management company, while Anoop works at Standard Chartered Bank. They met in the most peculiar and bizarre circumstances. Incidentally, they were involved in a car accident in the same car at the same place three years apart. In 2003, Anoop met with an accident on Palm Beach Road in New Bombay. Unfortunately, he suffered a fractured spinal cord which left him paralyzed below the waist. Nehal was involved in a similar crash with a similar injury in the same car at the same place in 2005.
This is when fate came into effect. The two met at an event held by the Mumbai-based spinal cord injury NGO, Nina Foundation. After striking a conversation emerging from similar life situations, the two got married in 2017 at the Grand Hyatt in Mumbai. The marriage was not easy since Anoop is a South Indian and Nehal is a Gujarati. Also, it was not easy to make people understand that they can live together independently. Still, they managed to convince everyone. To cater to their special needs, they modified their Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric car. Note that RTO offers valid customization options to let specially-abled people drive. In this case, a handle has been installed around the steering wheel which acts as a brake pedal, as well as the accelerator pedal. Hence, the need to use feet for this exercise is gone. That is a great way to utilize engineering for the benefit of people in their daily lives.

It fascinates me beyond comprehension how strong-willed some people are. Also, it makes me value the life and situations I have in my life. We take so many things for granted. After getting acquainted with people like Anoop and Nehal, it is natural for people to feel that they can achieve anything if they put their heart and soul to it. Let this serve as a gentle reminder for everyone to make the most of today, believe in yourself and be prepared to deal with any situation in life. Only you can help yourself.
