Tata Altroz Facelift vs Hyundai i20 Specs Features Price Comparison

The facelift iteration of the Altroz has recently been launched in India with a few new-age amenities, including styling

In this post, we compare the Tata Altroz facelift with the Hyundai i20 on the basis of specs and features. The premium hatchback segment holds a distinct place in the Indian car market. It sits right between entry-level cars and mid-size SUVs. This makes it a good option for buyers looking for a balance between price and features. In recent years, compact SUVs have gained popularity. They have taken away a large share of buyers from hatchbacks like the Altroz, Baleno, and i20. Despite this shift, these hatchbacks continue to attract many customers. Their size, features, and price keep them relevant. Now, let’s take a closer look at how two of these hatchbacks compare.

Tata Altroz Facelift vs Hyundai i20 – Specs

Next up, the new Tata Altroz facelift carries on with the same powertrain options as the outgoing model. However, there has been a new addition to the gearbox alternatives. It draws power from a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine, which makes 88 PS and 115 Nm (the same engine also offers a CNG avatar with 73.5 PS and 103 Nm) and a 1.5-litre turbo diesel engine, which generates a decent 90 PS and 200 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively. There are options of a 5-speed manual with petrol, CNG and diesel, or a 6-speed DCA and an all-new 5-speed AMT with petrol. Therefore, the needs of all kinds of buyers can be taken care of.

On the hand, the Hyundai i20 is available with a sole 1.2-litre 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol making 83 PS (88 PS with iVT) and 114.7 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively. This mill can be paired with a 5-speed manual or an iVT (CVT) automatic transmission. This is a tried and tested smooth engine and transmission combination which has been doing immensely well for the premium hatchback for a long time now.

My View

Both these cars are quite compelling. On the one hand, the Hyundai i20 comes with an incredibly feature-laden cabin along with the latest tech and convenience amenities. That has been its appeal for the longest time. Also, its styling is quite bold, which makes it an instantly recognizable product. As a result, it remains one of the highest-selling models for the Korean auto giant in India. On the other hand, the Tata Altroz offers multiple powertrain options to suit the needs of all kinds of buyers. In any case, both of these are capable products, and you can’t go wrong with either.
