The much-awaited petrol mill is finally available with the flagship Tata SUVs
The Tata Safari and Harrier are now on sale with a new turbo petrol mill, in addition to the existing Fiat-sourced turbo diesel engine. Safari and Harrier are the flagship products from the Indian automobile giant. They have done commendable sales since the beginning. However, in recent years, the competition in this space has been fierce. Having a sole diesel mill with these two SUVs was a disadvantage for Tata Motors to rival the competitors. That has led to the creation of a new 1.5-litre Hyperion turbo-GDi petrol mill. Let us take a look at the details here.
Tata Safari and Harrier Launched with New Petrol Engine
The new 1.5-litre Hyperion turbo-GDi petrol engine generates a healthy 170 PS and 280 Nm of maximum power and torque, respectively. Note that this is the same engine which made its debut with the recently launched Tata Sierra, albeit in a higher state of tune. Performing transmission duties is a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox with both petrol and diesel engines. Hence, the buyers will have the flexibility to pick an engine-gearbox combination as per their requirements. Now, the Harrier and Safari will give a tough fight to the likes of the Mahindra XUV 7XO, which was also updated a few days ago.
