Tata Tiago CNG went on sale merely a couple of days after Maruti Celerio CNG but has a lower ARAI-claimed mileage of 26.49 km/kg as opposed 35.60 km/kg

It’s interesting how market dynamics have led to demise and birth of engine variants of the Tata Tiago. Initially launched with a petrol as well as a diesel engine option, the Tiago later bid farewell to the diesel motor as the demand for small cars powered by the dirtier fuel slumped big time. The most affordable Tata car then continued with a petrol engine option for a long while but was recently introduced with a CNG variant. With an ARAI-claimed mileage of 26.49 km/kg, it’s certainly not as fuel efficient as Celerio’s 35.60 km/kg but one of the first buyers has decided to take it upon himself to show how one can easily beat the ARAI claim. Have a good look at the video we have below-

To test the actual mileage of his brand new Tata Tiago CNG, the uploader of this video hits the CNG fuel station with absolutely no gas in his car’s tank. Then, he instructs the attendant to fill up exactly 2 kgs of CNG. Next, he resets the odo and sets out on a trip around the city and even on the nearby highway to test the actual mileage figure of the vehicle. Going by the claim of ARAI, his car wouldn’t have been able to clock more than 53 km on the Compressed Natural Gas but the vlogger ends up hitting an actual mileage figure of almost 33 km/kg. This makes the car far more fuel efficient than what one would think it is after looking at the ARAI-tested figure. It’s still less fuel efficient than arch rival, Maruti Celerio though.

The Tata Tiago CNG is claimed to feature an advanced high-quality stainless steel CNG kit that is high on durability along with offering leak detection technology that makes sure to switch to petrol in case it detects a leak of gas. The car also comes with many other advanced technologies such as a single advanced ECU, direct start in CNG and even a special nozzle for faster refuelling.

Visually, however, the Tata Tiago CNG looks pretty much the same as the petrol model. The only tell-tale signs here are the extra badges. In terms of specifications, however, the car has a lower power output of 73PS instead of the 86PS that the petrol-only variant offers. The top-end XZ+ trim of the new model comes with many features such as LED DRLs, Harman touchscreen audio unit and chrome detailing. Colour options on offer include – Midnight Plum, Arizona Blue, Opal White, Flame Red and Daytona Grey.
