Toyota Innova and Fortuner continue to be the stalwarts of the Japanese carmaker in our market. Both these are the most successful vehicles in Toyota’s India portfolio for years now. On one hand, the Innova is a reliable MPV which has undergone many iterations. At the moment, you can buy it as Innova Crysta or Innova Hycross. On the other hand, the Fortuner is one of the most successful 7-seat off-roaders in our market ever. The only true rival it had was the Ford Endeavour. However, after the departure of Ford from India, Toyota is enjoying immense success. That is the reason for such impressive sales.

Toyota Innova and Fortuner Sales

According to the latest monthly sales data, Toyota Innova (Crysta + Hycross) sold 8,900 units in the month of September 2023. This is higher than September 2022 when this number was 7,282. In fact, in August 2023, this statistic stood at 8,666. Hence, the growth has been steady. Similarly, the Japanese auto giant was able to sell 2,874 units of the mighty Fortuner in Sept 2023. This is almost similar to what was sold in September 2022 and August 2023. Hence, these two products have been posting consistent sales for Toyota for years.

Maruti Badge-Engineered Car Sales

Under the joint venture between Suzuki and Toyota, the latter sells the badge-engineered models of the former in our market. These include the likes of Glanza, Rumion, Urban Cruiser and Hyryder. The total sales of all these vehicles is 9,992 units for the month of September 2023. This is a testament to the fact that the original Toyota cars are still the majority volume churners for the brand. Still, the partnership with the largest carmaker in the country has helped Toyota expand its customer base.

What We Think

Sales numbers are a perfect depiction of how well the customers are receiving the products for each carmaker. In fact, the market gives verdicts every single month. Accordingly, the carmakers can take customer feedback to plan its future operations. With these numbers, the carmakers are able to gauge the response about particular trims, powertrain-transmission combinations, features, etc. Hence, it is an important parameter to judge the current success of any car maker or model.
