Thanks to our dear reader, Gaurav Sehgal, the Toyota Yaris hatchback has once again been caught testing on Delhi roads. There have been a handful of sightings of this small car in the last few years but the carmaker has no plans to introduce this model on our turf. The sedan version struggled against fierce competitors like the Honda City and Hyundai Verna, before being pulled off the shelves. In such a scenario, introduce the hatchback version in the ever-so-competitive hatchback market makes little sense. So, in all probability, the test mules seen so far are here for component testing.

Toyota Yaris Hatchback Spotted Sans Camouflage

As before, the spy pics show an uncamouflaged test unit plying on a public road in broad daylight. The lack of camouflage clearly suggests that the vehicle is not intended for a launch in the Indian market. As mentioned, it’s possible the car is being utilized for component tests and road assessments. That said, the Toyota Yaris hatchback’s design captures attention with its distinctive look. The front-end looks sharp with a sporty nose. Meanwhile, the rear-end looks equally sporty. It features a roof spoiler, shark fin antenna, and a rather chunky bumper. Its distinct appearance sets it apart.

The highlight of the side profile is a subtle curve toward the rear wheel arch. The steel rims hint that the spy mule is in base spec. The details seen in the spy media are in alignment with the international model’s appearance.

Specifications

Internationally, the Toyota Yaris hatchback has been available with three powertrain options: a 1.0-liter petrol, a 1.5-liter petrol, and a 1.5-liter petrol hybrid. These motors output 116 hp, 118 hp, and 195 hp of peak power, accompanied by 120 Nm, 140 Nm, and 261 Nm of peak torque, respectively. Transmission options include 5-speed and 6-speed manual units, as well as a CVT automatic. The possibility of Toyota introducing the Yaris hatchback here is really slim. It already sells the Glanza, which is, essentially, a re-purposed Maruti Baleno.
