CNG is not a technology that is at all popular with the two-wheelers anywhere in the world
In a rather bizarre turn of events, we came across the world’s first ‘BMW’ CNG motorcycle. Now, it is quite rare to see motorbikes using CNG technology globally. It is something we see only in four-wheelers. In India, there is plenty of infrastructure around CNG, especially in the major cities. As a consequence, people use CNG cars for private, as well as commercial, applications. For now, let us take a look at the details of this unique case.
World’s First Modified ‘BMW’ CNG Motorcycle
We are able to experience this strange case courtesy of gearheadofficialindia on Instagram. The host has the CNG motorcycle with BMW insignia everywhere. One can clearly see the BMW logo on the fuel tank along with Motorrad graphics at various places. At first glance, it certainly looks like a German bike. However, look closely and you will find out that this is the Bajaj CNG motorcycle, which has been modified to look like a BMW bike. I must admit the customizations look extremely clean.
Underneath the components, it is a Bajaj Freedom 125 CNG. It holds the title of being the first CNG motorcycle in the world. It comes with a 125-cc air-cooled BS6 engine which generates a healthy 9.5 PS @8,000 RPM and 9.7 Nm @5,500 RPM of peak power and torque, respectively. Performing the transmission duties is a 5-speed manual gearbox. The protective Trellis Frame is what holds the PESO-certified CNG cylinder in its place. Furthermore, the fuel tank capacity is 2 kg CNG + 2 litres petrol and the combined mileage is 330 km. The prices start from Rs 90,272 and go up to Rs 1.10 lakh, ex-showroom.

My View
In recent times, I have been coming across numerous instances of people going for hardcore aftermarket modifications to their bikes. In a bid to stand out from the crowd, they often go overboard. This latest case is a perfect case in point. The customizations are so extreme that the identity of the original model is lost completely. I shall keep an eye out for more such cases in the times to come.
