In a bid to boost their subscriber base, people end up posting questionable content on social media which is regarded as potentially dangerous by the Police.
Police detain 14 social media influencers for posting offensive content on the internet. The content revolved around stunts, weapons like guns and swords, and posting with a toy gun without giving a disclaimer. These days, people are doing everything in their power to make content for social media to garner a lot of engagement. That could sometimes lead to people posting questionable and dangerous posts that could spread negative messages among the netizens. The Police have started a crackdown on such accounts in Gujarat.

Police Detain 14 Social Media Influencers
The Jamnagar cybercrime has detained 14 people in the last 2 days for posting offensive content on social media. This includes things like bike stunts, posing with a gun or a sword, wielding a sharp-edged weapon or posing with a toy gun without adding a disclaimer. This action was taken under Criminal Procedure Code sections 149 and 151 giving the Police the power to arrest or detain people to prevent cognizable offence. As a result, these so-called social media stars were detained and told that their actions were in violation of laws.

The Jamnagar Police have identified 12 more persons with similar offensive content and they are from Gir Somnath, Rajkot and Kutch districts. They have been warned as well. PP Jha, Jamnagar Police Inspector said, “There have been instances in other states where a gang of social media influencers have come into existence. This becomes a law and order situation.”

He continues, “It is necessary to create awareness to prevent such activities that could lead to disruption of law and order. We have also informed concerned police stations to register FIRs against these people under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).” We can only advise our readers to make sure not to put anything in the name of content on social media.
