It is reported that the 2014 BMW X5 will be launched in India in June 2014. The SUV will be assembled in India via CKD (completely knocked down) units which should bring down the cost and make it more competitive against the likes of the Audi Q7, Mercedes-Benz GL-Class, Toyota Land Cruiser Prado etc. BMW had showcased the new X5 at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo held in February and has been giving potential customers a taste of the SUV at company organised ‘experience’ events around the country.

Ever since the new 2014 BMW X5 was announced in May 2013, Indian fans, aspirants and potential buyers have been curiously waiting for its arrival to the country. Seems like that the wait is going to be over pretty soon now. The company has indicated that it is planning to launch the SUV in India pretty soon. The third generation BMW X5 is company’s flagship product in the SUV and crossover segment.
There are minor changes on the exterior. The new SUV has bolder front end which is donned with a sharper kidney grille, LED headlamps and a heavily contoured bumper with air-curtain ducts on the lower outer edges for a more efficient air flow through the front-wheel houses. Similarly, the interior also looks reworked with options like two rear-seat choices: a fixed 40/20/40 bench or a new 70/30 bench. You can also adjust it longitudinally to make way for an optional third row. The X5 has undergone an evolutionary change rather than a revolutionary one and this might just be the last facelift before the majorly overhauled next generation model swoops in.
The new 2014 BMW X5 luxury SUV offers choice of diesel six-cylinder engines or a 4.4-liter V8. It will also come with an optional rear-wheel-drive variant that runs on a 300 Bhp turbocharged 3.0-liter in-line six-cylinder petrol engine in the U.S. . Other engine options are a turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 producing 445 hp in the xDrive50i, a turbocharged 3.0-liter in-line six common rail diesel with 255 hp (xDrive35d).
India will get the SUV either as a CBU or as a CKD from BMW’s U.S. plant. We assume that it will be priced about Rs 65 lakhs and will come to us via the CBU route as the numbers won’t be high enough to justify the CKD assembly.
