When Honda launched the 2014 Honda City, Hyundai had to rethink how the popular Verna had to be marketed. For the first time, in a long time, Honda had a value for money sedan, loaded with features on easy on the pocket and it worried Hyundai a lot. It had given the Verna a facelift in 2013 but that could not alone fend off the competition from the Honda City. Now Hyundai has given the Verna range a revision to make it more competitive and the company hopes that this would help the Verna retain the sales throne in this segment, say hello to the 2014 Hyundai Verna.
Changes to the Verna range include the discontinuation of the Verna 1.4-litre VTVT EX and Verna 1.4-litre CRDi EX variants, which have been replaced by the CX variant which is more feature loaded. Apart from this major change, the other variants in the range have received changes too.

The 2014 Hyundai Verna 1.4-litre CX variant
We had told you about the CX variant in January just after the launch of the 2o14 Honda City. The new variant sits between the base 1.4-litre diesel/petrol GL variant of the Verna and the 1.6-litre diesel/petrol EX variant.
Powered by the 1.4-litre VTVT petrol (106 BHP/136 Nm) or the 1.4-litre CRDi diesel (89 BHP/220 Nm), it is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The 4-speed automatic transmission is not on offer.
Features on the CX variant, above the GL variant include:
- Rear view camera
- Steering mounted controls
- Automatic climate control
- Disc brakes all around with ABS
- Driver side airbag
- Alloy Wheelย (NEW)
- Power folding ORVMsย (NEW)
- Misses out on the i-Pod cable which was available on the 1.4-litre EX variant
Standard features include:
- LED indicators mounted on ORVMs
- Chrome grille
- Power windows with auto down/up for driver
- 2 DIN media player with MP3 / AUX / USB connectivity
The 2014 Hyundai Verna 1.6-litre EX variant
Though costlier than the 1.4-litre CX variant, it loses out on the alloy wheels and power folding ORVMS, rest of the features are the same.
The 2014 Hyundai Verna 1.6-litre SX variant
Gets the following features over the 1.6-litre EX:
- Dual airbags
- Alloy wheels
- Cooled glovebox
- Power folding ORVMS
Loses supervision cluster that was available earlier.
The 1.6-litre SX variant is now the variant which offers the 4-speed automatic transmission as well, earlier the lower 1.6-litre EX variant also used to be offered with the same transmission.
The 2014 Hyundai Verna 1.6-litre SX (O) variant
The top of the line variant of the Hyundai Verna is truly loaded to the gills, feature include:
- Projector headlamps, with automatic dimmingย (NEW)
- LED positioning lampsย (NEW)

- Speed sensing auto door lockย (NEW)
