At the Auto Expo held in February 2016, Chevrolet showcased the new model Beat for India in the form of the Beat Activ concept. This concept is all set to enter production and will arrive in showrooms by mid-2017. It will be essentially a cross variant of the new 2017 Chevrolet Beat. Unlike the international Beat (aka Spark), the 2017 Chevrolet Beat for India isn’t based on an all-new platform. Instead, the upcoming car is a highly updated version of the Beat we currently know of. We expect the upcoming 2017 Chevrolet Beat Activ to cost marginally more than the standard car. It will feature the same engines as the Beat. Which means it will get both petrol and diesel engine options. While the diesel motor will remain the same, the petrol engine could be a new one. That said, don’t be surprised if GM India ends up retaining the current 1.2-litre Petrol engine.ย We’re expecting the 2017 Chevrolet Beat Activ to start at around Rs. 4.5 lakhs in India.

At the Auto Expo, GM India stated that the new Beat lineup will arrive in early 2017. However, reports now suggest the launch will take place by May 2017. The 2017 Beat Activ cross is likely to go on sale in the first-half of 2017. Accompanying the Beat Activ will be the standard variants of the hatchback and a compact sedan derivate called Essentia.

In terms of pricing, the new Beat Activ will cost slightly more than the standard Beat hatchback. We expect the Beat Activ to have a starting price of Rs. 4.5 lakh for the base petrol variant. The top of the line Diesel LTZ trim could be priced around Rs. 7 lakh.

The 2017 Chevrolet Beat Activ will offer the same engines as the 2017 Beat. Which means both Petrol and Diesel engine options will be available . While the Diesel models will get the current 1.0-litre motor, the Petrol models could get a new 1.0-litre unit. This new 1.0-litre unit will be aย downsized version of the 1.4-litre EcoTech motor. However, we won’t be surprised if Chevrolet decides to continue with the current 1.2-litreย Petrol engine.

While the new model Beat is based on the current mode, there could be slight changes in dimensions. The Beat Activ could be longer and slightly wider thanks to the extra body cladding. Also, it will be heavier and could boast better ground clearance.

2017 Chevrolet Beat Activ India –ย Design Review
While the new Chevrolet Beat 2017, on which the Beat Activ is based, isn’t an all-new model, it carries a sea of changes over the current model and looks more attractive. It retains the same silhouette, but gets a new nose. The design of the front end borrows styling cues from the international-spec model seen in images above. GM recently released images of the Spark Activ and crossover treatment seen here gives us a fair idea of the kind of treatment the Beat will receive to transform it into the Beat Activ.ย There will be new tail lamps at the back along with a new bumper. The Beat Activ will get a different alloy wheel design.
Interior
We have always been a fan of the Beat’s funky interior design, especially for bits such as the superbike like speedo console.ย The interiors of the 2017 model build on that. The image you see here is of the concept that was on display at the auto expo. Beat Activ’s interior will be more or less the same. We’re not sure whether the body coloured highlights will make it to the production model or not, though.

2017 Chevrolet Beat Activ India –ย Engine and Transmission
The newย Chevrolet Beat 2017 will retain itsย 1.0-litre, three-cylinder Diesel engine. However, there are chances it will get a new 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder Petrol engine instead of the current 1.2-litre petrol motor. The Beat will continue to offer just one transmission option – 5-Speed Manual. These engines will power the new Beat Activ as well. The Activ is merely a cosmetic upgrade so do not expect any changes in specifications.
