For the first time in many years, no Maruti car is the best selling car and for May 2020, the new Hyundai Creta bags the first position.

Hyundai launched the new generation 2020 Creta just some days before the nationwide lockdown started. In the previous two months, Hyundai recorded more than 24,000 bookings for the SUV. Now, fresh reports suggest that Creta is the best selling car for the month of May 2020 with just 3,200 units sold.

Now, all dealerships have slowly started opening but in the past couple of weeks, very limited showrooms were open. Despite that, it managed to make more than 3200 sales in May. Now the dealerships are open, the numbers will swiftly increase over the couple of months to follow.

The second position is taken up by Maruti Ertiga with 2353 units sold. The third one is Maruti Dzire with just over 2,200 units, fourth by Mahindra Bolero and the fifth position by Maruti Eco. This might just be one of the rare times that the first five positions in monthly sales is not taken up by Maruti cars.

Usually, Maruti Alto, Baleno, WagonR, Swift and Dzire battle out for the top 5 positions. All these being more affordable than Creta could not make it to the top 5. That could possibly be because of the high bookings that were done online during the lockdown. The prices of Creta start at Rs 9.89 Lakhs up to Rs 17.20 Lakhs (ex-showroom).

It is available in three engine options including a 1.5 Litre petrol, a 1.5 Litre diesel and a 1.4 Litre TGDI turbo petrol engine. While the petrol and diesel come with a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard, the turbo petrol unit goes with 7-speed DCT. Additionally, the petrol engine gets a CVT and the diesel engine gets a 6-speed AT as options.
