If launched then the 2020 Tata Safari will see a new engine and is expected to follow the Impact 2.0 Design Philosophy.

The Safari has been a legacy for Tata Motors for over two decades and with the discontinuation of the SUV, it’s hard to say that we won’t forget the butch looking SUV. However, it is expected that Tata might bring the Safari back and here we have a rendered image of how the 2020 SUV might look like.

If the Tata Safari makes a comeback in 2020 then we expect it to follow the latest Impact 2.0 Design Philosophy as seen in the harrier and the rendered image here completely does the justice.

For starters, the front fascia carries a split headlight design with projector headlamps at the bottom and LED DRLs at the top. The mesh grille upfront with Tata Logo inside and scuff plate at the front makes it an aggressive-looking of the lot. The squared wheel arches also add some presence.

The SUV continues to stick with its boxy style design, unlike the Harrier. The raked windshield, black side moulding and sharp wing mirrors are a proof. Also to increase the modernity and charm, the roof, pillars and ORVMs gets black treatment which gives the SUV a dual-tone look.

Coming to the powertrain, the Safari was discontinued in the first place is because the 2.2L oil burner could not be updated with upcoming BS6 emission norms. This Varicor turbocharged diesel engine produced 154 bhp with a peak torque of 400 Nm. The motor was mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox.

However, the new age Safari could use the FCA sourced 2.0-litre diesel engine. The same engine is used in Harrier, however, the tuning is different in the mid-size SUV,. The diesel motor is expected to produce 170 bhp with 350 Nm of pure torque. It is also likely that an automatic Safari could be launched to boost up the sales.

If Tata Motors plans to bring the Safari anytime soon then it will be placed above the Blackbird SUV which is expected to see at the 2020 Auto Expo. It will continue with the 4×4 capabilities and stick to 7-seat configuration. Once launched, the Safari will rival directly with the Mahindra Scorpio.
