2021 Mahindra Scorpio has been once again spotted testing with a full-body camouflage. That said, the launch of the SUV is nearing and we are witnessing more visuals indicating what to expect. Scorpio has been one of the most popular SUVs in the last decade in India. There is almost a heritage attached to the moniker and giving it a modern touch will surely gain it further popularity in our market. The wide variety of applications of the Scorpio has been its strongest suit. The customers use it as a 4×4 off-roader, commercial product, lifestyle product and utilitarian product. Satisfying such varying needs of the buyers is not an easy feat. Let us take a look at what the new-gen Scorpio might come with.

The SUV is heavily camouflaged but the overall silhouette is clearly recognizable. Based on the same platform as the Thar, the Scorpio will be a bit larger in dimensions in comparison to its current-gen model. There will be modern bits including sleek projector headlamps, vertically slatted grille with chrome inserts, redesigned sporty bumper with fog lamps and an upright stance. There will be sporty alloy wheels which are also seen in the video and the rear will feature the side-opening boot door along with redesigned bits like the taillamps and bumper.

The interiors and design of the centre console are visible in the spy images quite clearly. It seems that the Scorpio will get a large Touchscreen Infotainment Display, plenty of physical buttons for climate and audio controls, Dual-Zone Automatic Climate Control, Upright Air-Con Vents, Multi-Purpose Steering Wheels with Control, Digital/Part-Digital Driver’s Instrument Cluster, Traditional Parking Brake Lever. We expect that the Infotainment System will feature Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth Connectivity, Connected Car Tech, Voice Commands, Sturdy Interiors, Spacious Cabin, Off-Roading Capabilities, Multiple Drive Modes and much more. This will be a clear departure from the relatively utilitarian cabin of the existing model on sale and will ensure a modern approach.

The next-gen Mahindra Scorpio will share the engines with the Thar. That means it will likely get a 2.2-litre diesel engine making 132 hp and a 2.0-litre direct-injection turbo petrol (from the Mahindra’s own mStallion family), making a decent 152 hp. Like the Thar, the Scorpio will likely come with 6-speed manual or automatic transmission options for both engines. Not to mention, the 4×4 setup will also be available with some variants like before. This being a body-on-frame SUV, might not have any direct rivals but there will be rivals according to the price point. We expect the all-new Scorpio to range between Rs 13 lakh and Rs 18 lakh, ex-showroom making it compete against the likes of MG Hector Plus, Tata Safari, Hyundai Alcazar and the likes.
