A Seltos and Vento owner has reviewed the new compact SUV from VW, the Taigun. Taigun is panning out to be the make-or-break product for the German carmaker in the Indian market. Taigun is supposed to redefine the second innings of Volkswagen in India. Based on the Indianized MQB A0 IN platform, the mid-size SUV comes with over 90% localization. Slated to launch soon, the SUV will take on the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Mahindra XUV700 and Skoda Kushaq (its sibling SUV). On this occasion, a Seltos and Vento owner gives a thorough review of the Taigun. Let us check out what the VW Taigun GT will come with.

According to the Seltos owner, the legroom for all passengers is good, ingress & egress is easier, the rear is not best for 3 people, the loading lip is a bit high, ambient lighting is better than Seltos, the steering feel and controls are decent, the sunroof is a bit bigger but fit and finish is not the best, dummy sunglass holder isn’t great, the quality of the AC vents is not great, cabin light switches have a creaking noise, the Digital Instrument Cluster is sharp and crisp but takes a bit getting used to. These are some of the interior highlights of the VW Taigun.

On the exterior, the Seltos owner says that the chrome highlights on the bumpers (front and rear) are a bit too much. However, we are aware of the fact that many people in India are fond of blingy elements on a car as it enhances the road presence. Apart from that, the halogen fog lamps are a bit weird in the age of LEDs but they will do the needful, the overall silhouette is that of a crossover and not a proper SUV.

Specs

The Taigun comes with two powertrain options including a 1.0-litre TSI engine, making 115hp and 175Nm and the second, a 1.5-litre TSI engine making 150hp and 250Nm. The smaller engine will come with either a 6-speed manual or an automatic transmission option and the larger engine will come with a 7-speed DSG (DCT) gearbox. The prices of the VW Taigun could be the deciding factor to determine if it makes sense to buyers in the face of stiff competition from the Koreans. We expect the prices to be in the range of Rs 10 lakh and Rs 17.50 lakh, ex-showroom.
