Tata Nexon Smoothly Climbs A 20-foot Sand Dune

Tata Nexon is one of the most popular compact SUVs in India. A new video shows it smoothly climbing a 20-foot sand dune.

Tata Nexon is one of the top 10 highest-selling cars in the country. It features a rugged build quality and comes with high ground clearance. The compact SUV is known for its safety features and its 5-star GNCAP rating. It is powered by 1.2-liter turbocharged petrol (120PS/ 170Nm)/ 1.5-liter turbocharged diesel (110PS/ 260Nm) engines paired with a standard 6-speed MT and a 6-speed AMT. As you can see in the video above, Mr. Satyendu Sar decided to test the capabilities of his Tata Nexon by climbing a 20-foot sand dune. While he failed on his first attempt, the car managed to reach the peak on the second attempt. This incident was captured on video. The Tata Nexon followed a trail made by a previous vehicle. After gathering some momentum, the compact SUV was able to climb up the sand dune quite easily. It did not bottom out anywhere.

Thanks to a ground clearance of 209 mm, the Tata Nexon can tackle bad patches of the road quite easily. During the above-mentioned climb also, the car’s bumper did not touch the sand. The video does not include the details of the drive mode. We do not know about the powertrain of the Tata Nexon either. It might be a petrol engine or a diesel engine. It is to be noted that such stunts should only be done with proper precautions and safety measures as a lot of things could go wrong.

While the 20-foot climb is quite impressive, the Tata Nexon is not designed like an off-roading vehicle. It is a front-wheel-drive vehicle. Ideally, a proper 4×4 or at least a rear-wheel-drive vehicle is needed to tackle such kinds of terrains. Additionally, the compact SUV is using stock road-biased tires which are not good for off-roading either. Off-road tires provide better grip in off-road situations. Driving a standard car on such rough terrains can damage a lot of parts of the vehicle.

Off-roading vehicles are designed to handle the pressure offered by rough terrains. This includes massive jolts that could damage a standard car’s steering assembly and shock absorbers. You might also damage the underbody. Sometimes rocks can bottom of the SUV. This can easily damage the radiator and engine sump. All these repairs would be very costly. Additionally, your car might lose traction and get stuck. This can be quite dangerous in remote locations.
