The Hyundai Santa Fe, the flagship SUV of the Korean manufacturer got off to a good solid start in India but could not capitalise on the momentum it gained. The car is brought in the country as a Completely Built Unit(CBU) which accounts for a higher cost than the rest in the Rs.20-25 lakh SUV segment. The car’s next generation model was shown off by the company a while ago and the same has been caught testing in India, indicating towards an impending launch in the country. The car was showcased at the New York Motor Show in 2012 and the same got launched in a number of markets after that. India will be the latest country to get the 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe.
The test car in the pictures carries a pretty heavy camouflage and does not reveal much details about the India spec SUV. The car is available in 5-seater and 7-seater options and the one which goes on sale in India will most probably be the 7-seater unit. The car gets longer and wider than the previous generation Santa Fe by 30mm and 5mm respectively. At the same time, the car will gets lower by 45mm than the previous generation Santa Fe.
The car will be assembled in India this time around which will lend the company a cost advantage over the previous generation of the car. It will come with a slew of features such as Hill Assist, ESP, 19 inch alloys, a touchscreen infotainment system, a satellite navigation system and Xenon headlamps which will be coupled with day time running LEDs. The car will get a keyless entry and go as standard as well.
The car will also come shod with a reverse parking camera and a tyre pressure monitor as well. For the safety, it will get multiple airbags. The Santa Fe in its next generation will continue the legacy of the fluidic design philosophy.
