BMW 1 Series may be small but packs quite the punch both visually and technically. Now the next generation 1 series is slated to come out in 2018, but the rumour mills have started, fueling the curiosity of millions of BMW enthusiast worldwide. The talks of the German Giants reinventing the 1 series is more than enough to make us excited with the car reportedly to be available as a three- and five-door hatchback as well as a sedan. From all the speculations surrounding the “What is going to be new” in this edition of the 1 series, we bring you those which according to us hold the maximum probability of actually being implemented.

What To Expect In The 2018 BMW 1 Series:

Front Wheel Drive:

The 1 Series wonโ€™t be the first front-wheel-drive BMW, that will be theย 2 Series Active Tourerย MPV, while the newย X1ย (due in 2015) will beย offered with front or four-wheel drive. All three of these BMWs will be based on the new UKL1 architecture that already underpins the new three and five-doorย MINIs.

More Spacious:

We expect the 1 Seriesโ€™ wheelbase to be stretched even further than the 2,567mm of the five-door MINI, creating more space in theย back than at present and a bigger bootย โ€“ itโ€™s currently 360 litres or 1,200 litres with the rear seats folded.

Lighter:

Even though the new 1 Series will be slightly bigger, itโ€™s expected to be lighter. Removing the propshaft (which is necessary for rear-wheel drive) alone is likely to save 30kg, while greater use of aluminiumย in the body will cut more weight thereby improvingย handling and economy.

Engine:

Engine options remain unconfirmed but will likely include a variety of three- and four-cylinder units. There are also rumors about an all-wheel drive M1 which could use a twin-turbo 2.0-liter petrol engine that develops approximately 360 bhp (268 kW).
So that is all that we have as on date on the BMW 1 series, watch this space for more news on the same.
