Honda City Hybrid Front Three Quarters

The strong hybrid cars have not been all that popular in our market due to their high initial prices

The Honda City Hybrid is being offered with attractive price cuts worth up to Rs 95,000. The Japanese car marque has been offering the City sedan in India for over 2 decades now. It is among the most successful sedans in the country. That is the reason why it has been able to hold its own in the face of tough challenges from rivals like the Hyundai Verna for over a decade and VW Virtus and Skoda Slavia in the last few years. Still, the demand for the Honda City has remained strong.

Honda City Hybrid Prices Cut By Rs 95,000

The strong hybrid avatar of the Honda City was launched in our market back in 2022. With the current Rs 95,000 price cut, the hybrid sedan now starts at Rs 19.90 lakh, ex-showroom. That is mighty attractive and is marginally more than the introductory price. Hence, it might be the ideal time to go for it. Interestingly, this move might have something to do with the latest Delhi EV Policy, which announced 0 road tax on hybrid cars bearing a price tag of below Rs 20 lakh. As a result, the buyers will have a double benefit.

The Honda City e:HEV hybrid comes with a 1.5-litre strong hybrid petrol engine with 2 electric motors and Atkinson cycle, which is able to generate a healthy 126 PS and 253 Nm of maximum power and torque, respectively. This mill pairs with an e-CVT automatic transmission for a smooth operation. However, the biggest talking point has to be the incredible claimed mileage of 26.5 km/l. The aim is to compensate for the running cost, the premium that the buyers have to pay in comparison to the regular ICE Honda City.

My View

The Indian government is supporting electrified vehicles, whether they are strong hybrids or EVs. That is necessary to give an initial boost for the mass adoption. There is still some time before the entire infrastructure is created around EVs. Until then, hybrids could play a crucial role. That is why the Delhi EV Policy is making it enticing for car buyers to own hybrid cars. Let us see how this measure translates to sales.
