The Indian automobile giant is busy with tons of new launches in our markets, including the Sierra in electric and ICE guises
The upcoming new Tata Sierra was recently spied on a highway. Sierra is currently the most awaited SUV from the Indian auto giant. It was shown in a near-production version at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 held in New Delhi this January. To compete with Mahindra’s modern electric SUVs, Tata is preparing to launch new pure EVs soon. Right now, Tata is the top EV brand in India. But most of its EV sales come from models that were originally petrol or diesel cars, later turned electric. For now, let us glance at the specifics of the upcoming electric SUV.
New Tata Sierra Spied Testing
These visuals stem from tamilmotors360 on Instagram. They capture a man driving on a highway in his car. However, he suddenly comes across a heavily camouflaged SUV parked on the side of the road. In the first part of the video, we witness the tail end of the SUV. It bears an upright silhouette with a prominent roof-mounted rear spoiler. Also, the LED taillamps look sleek even though they are not entirely visible. Down below, the bumper oozes a sturdy appearance. On the sides, the boxy silhouette becomes evident.
That is something we saw on the concept model at the Auto Expo 2025 in January. Also, it seems like the Sierra will boast flush-fitting door handles and elegant alloy wheels, which will accentuate the side profile significantly. The side body cladding / side steps are partially visible. I like the muscular wheel arches. Finally, we are able to glance at the front fascia. It looks like a sleek LED light strip running across the width of the face. That is something we have seen on many new-age Tata cars. More details will emerge in the coming weeks.
My View
While it is not official yet, Tata Motors might launch the electric iteration of the Tata Sierra first by the end of this year. The ICE version will follow next. The details pertaining to the specifications are still scarce. Nevertheless, one can expect the ICE iteration to bear a 1.5-litre turbo petrol and diesel mill. There will be options to choose between manual and automatic gearboxes. Let us see how things pan out going forward.
