The Indian automobile giant has demonstrated enticing concepts, representing its upcoming new generation of SUVs
Mahindra has revealed 4 concepts as a part of its Global Vision 2027 initiative on the occasion of the Indian Independence Day in Mumbai. These concepts are – Vision.S, Vision.X, Vision.T and Vision.SXT. These will be underpinned by the new NU_IQ Platform, which will spawn petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric vehicles along with all-wheel-drive capabilities. It is a new modular monocoque architecture. I believe it is not wrong to claim that this has to be the biggest and most transformative event from Mahindra in recent times, simply because of the sheer scope of things to power the future mobility. Let us take a look at the Vision.S and Vision.X in this post.
Mahindra Unveils Vision.S
The first crucial concept was the Vision.S. In a way, it is touted as a compact iteration of the iconic Scorpio. We know that Scorpio is an immensely credible and popular moniker in our country. Mahindra wants to introduce a sub-4m version with an upright stance, squared wheel arches and a tailgate-mounted spare. Furthermore, it will bear rugged components like sturdy body claddings, along with premium elements like flush-fitting door handles. The generous 2,665 mm wheelbase will ensure plenty of space for the occupants.
On the inside, it will come with all the latest gadgets and gizmos. This is something we have seen with all recent Mahindra products. This could incorporate features like dual displays – one for infotainment and one for the driver’s instrument cluster. Taking care of the powertrain duties might be a 1.2-litre turbo petrol or a 1.5-litre diesel mill with manual and automatic transmission options. Finally, the AWD capabilities will set this SUV apart from its peers in this space. We might see the production SUV launch in India by 2027.
Mahindra Unveils Vision.X
The other sub-4m SUV, which will be spawned from a concept, is the Vision.X. In essence, it will carry a sporty crossover flavour of the XEV range of SUVs. The concept iteration showcased a sporty SUV with the Twin Peaks logo. Some of the most prominent bits are a sculpted bonnet, raked windscreen, a near-fastback rear, aero alloys and squared arches with cladding. On the inside, there will be driver-focused screens along with loads of new-age tech. Again, all sorts of powertrains are possible, including petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric. The launch might take place in 2027. Note that with all these SUVs, Mahindra is expecting a full 5-star safety rating at various NCAPs. More details will emerge in the coming months.
