The Independence Day event held in Mumbai unveiled the future of mobility from the Indian automobile giant
Mahindra is all the buzz at the moment after its Independence Day event in Mumbai, where it displayed its new NU_IQ Platform as a part of its Global Vision 2027. Under this, it showcased 4 new concepts – Vision.S, Vision.X, Vision.T and Vision.SXT. These will spawn futuristic SUVs with petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric hearts. Furthermore, these will be designed for the highest levels of safety as per the NCAP norms. Also, the all-wheel-drive configuration will lend them more capabilities. This platform will mark a huge shift with a modular monocoque architecture. For now, let us discuss the Vision.T and Vision.SXT concepts.
Mahindra Vision.T Concept
The Mahindra Vision.T, as the name indicates, will take the legacy of the iconic Thar into the modern era. We know that Thar is the most successful off-roading SUV in India. Currently, it is available in 3-door and 5-door guises with petrol and diesel engines and manual and automatic transmissions. Going forward, we will even get an electric avatar of the Thar. The concept model embodies a butch stance with an imposing road presence. The main highlights incorporate a crisp quad-LED DRL motif flanking a central cube projector, bonnet latches, exposed hinges, flared arches, a tailgate spare, off-road bumpers with tow points, all-terrain tyres, hook points for roof carriers and a luggage-mount rack in the rear quarter.
Similarly, the interior comes with all the bells and whistles with top-notch materials and safety equipment. The powertrain alternatives will be varied and the battery pack might be borrowed from the existing XEV and BE electric SUVs. Some of the most important figures are up to 28°/34.9°/28.2° approach/departure/breakover angles. Also, the penta-link rear suspension will be instrumental for control and comfort. Finally, the 5-star rating is expected across a wide range of NCAP tests.
Mahindra Vision.SXT Concept
Then there is the Mahindra Vision.SXT concept, which is, essentially, the pickup derivative of the Vision.T. The sheer presence of this concept at the event attracted tons of eyeballs. In fact, the main distinction lies at the rear with a cargo compartment behind the double-cab structure. There are structural roll bars, a see-through tail panel, and an overall butch appearance. To take on the challenging terrains, it boasts chunky off-road tyres. Also, the exposed hinges add to the ruggedness quite a bit.
With the lengths stretching from 3,990 mm to 4,320 mm with the NU_IQ platform, the SXT might be the longest of the models. Again, the powertrain alternatives will include petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric. Being a genuine off-roading machine, the all-wheel-drive capabilities will ensure that it can go to any terrain without any fuss. We will most likely witness the production version around 2027.
