Maruti Brezza is among the most popular compact SUVs in the country
As per some online posts, the Maruti Brezza is facing a production halt, perhaps due to the plans for the facelift. More importantly, we might even see a new turbo petrol engine. Brezza is one of the most successful compact SUVs in our market. First launched in 2016, the vehicle has done tremendously well on the sales charts despite rising competition. In fact, in its current iteration, it bears a modern and bold styling, along with a wide range of new-age tech and convenience amenities to pamper the occupants. For now, let us take a look at the details of this case.
Maruti Brezza Production and Facelift
There have been many talks about the possibility of a Maruti Brezza facelift. He claims that he went to a Maruti Suzuki showroom to book a Brezza. However, the dealership staff told him that the waiting period is around 2-3 months and the production has been temporarily stopped. The man in the video takes a calculated guess that the reason could be the arrival of the new facelift model. Moreover, he mentions that the Tata Nexon (Brezza’s rival) experienced a massive price reduction after the recent GST rate revisions.
However, the Brezza was not fully able to utilize this GST reduction because it carries a 1.5-litre petrol engine. The tax benefits are more prominent for cars under 4 m in length and under 1.2-litre engine capacity. That is what leads the man in the video to believe that the Brezza could get a turbo variant of the 1.2-litre petrol engine, which is available in the Swift. In fact, that will allow the Brezza to possess more power and more peppy driving dynamics. That is something a few Brezza owners would appreciate, considering that it is on sale with a sole 1.5-litre NA petrol mill, making it one of the least powerful vehicles in its class.

My View
Most rivals of the Maruti Brezza give the customers the option to choose between multiple powertrains. Generally, one of these is a turbo petrol version for driving enthusiasts. However, that has been lacking with the Brezza for the longest time. I believe that since Maruti doesn’t have a diesel engine in its fleet anymore, it makes sense to think along the lines of a turbo petrol iteration of the familiar 1.2-litre NA petrol engine. Whether the largest car marque in the country does that or not remains to be seen.

Having tracked Maruti Suzuki’s strategy closely for over a decade, I can say a Brezza facelift with a smaller turbo-petrol engine would be a logical next step. The compact SUV segment has evolved rapidly, and rivals like Tata and Hyundai now offer punchier turbo options that appeal to enthusiasts. With changing taxation dynamics and the growing demand for performance without compromising efficiency, Maruti could finally be gearing up to plug that gap. If true, this move could significantly strengthen Brezza’s position in a fiercely competitive space.
