Nissan Gravite vs Maruti Ertiga - Specs, Price, Features, Design Comparison

The MPV segment in India is dominated by a handful of players in distinct price brackets

In this post, I am comparing the new Nissan Gravite with the Maruti Ertiga on the basis of specs, price, features, design, etc. I am aware that these two vehicles might belong to two distinct price brackets. Nevertheless, at the end of the day, they are both practical MPVs for those who seek value-for-money propositions. The new Gravite marks Nissan’s new chapter in India, where it wants to launch new products to expand its footprint. The Gravite is ideal for those who want the space of a 7-seat at the price of a hatchback. On the other hand, Ertiga is the most successful MPV on sale in India today.

Nissan Gravite vs Maruti Ertiga – Specs Comparison

Let us commence with the kind of powertrains the two MPVs possess. The new Nissan Gravite is powered by the well-known 1.0-litre naturally aspirated three-cylinder petrol engine, producing 72 PS and 96 Nm of maximum power and torque, respectively. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT automatic. Nissan quotes a fuel efficiency of 19.6 km/l for the AMT and 19.3 km/l for the manual. These are some decent numbers for people looking for low running costs.

On the other hand, the Maruti Ertiga is on sale with multiple powertrain alternatives. This includes a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated 4-cylinder petrol mill, which generates a familiar 103 PS and 138 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively. One can choose between manual and automatic transmissions. Apart from that, the CNG variant uses the 1.5-litre K15C engine, which produces 87 hp and 121.5 Nm of maximum power and torque. The CNG tank capacity stands at 60 litres, and the Ertiga delivers a claimed efficiency of 26.11 km/kg. With the same mechanical setup, the XL6 manages a marginally better figure of 26.32 km/kg.

Nissan Gravite vs Maruti Ertiga – Price Comparison

The new Nissan Gravite comes with special introductory pricing. It starts at Rs 5.65 lakh and goes up to Rs 8.49 lakh, ex-showroom. These are some pretty enticing numbers. On the other hand, the Maruti Ertiga retails between Rs 8.80 lakh and Rs 12.94 lakh, ex-showroom. Clearly, the Gravite has a slight edge here, although the Ertiga is a much bigger car.

Design and Dimensions Comparison

The new Nissan Gravite exhibits a noticeably aggressive stance and strong road presence, which is quite intriguing for an MPV. The front is characterised by signature LED headlamps with integrated DRLs, LED fog lamps housed within a rugged surround, a distinctive piano black 2D grille, sculpted bonnet lines and a chunky bumper featuring a skid plate-like insert. Along the sides, one can spot Triber-derived body panels, eye-catching alloy wheels, protective cladding, blacked-out pillars and practical roof rails. At the rear, there is a roof-mounted spoiler, LED taillamps linked by a thick chrome strip and a robust bumper with a skid plate and matching C-shaped detailing. Overall, the MPV appears contemporary and assertive.

In contrast, the Ertiga CNG in this particular variant misses out on several exterior features. It does not get fog lamps, rides on 15-inch steel wheels, and lacks roof rails, which slightly reduces its visual appeal. While projector headlamps are offered, there are no request sensors on the doors for keyless entry. It also skips body cladding around the wheel arches, along with the rear wiper, washer and defogger, which are useful in adverse weather conditions. Additionally, it makes do with a conventional antenna instead of a shark-fin unit. In comparison, the XL6 clearly enjoys a more premium and better-equipped exterior package.

Yatharth Chauhan, Managing Editor

In my assessment, this comparison highlights the classic Indian dilemma of price versus practicality. The Gravite targets first-time 7-seater buyers with an aggressive entry price, but the Ertiga continues to dominate thanks to its proven reliability, stronger powertrains and unmatched Maruti service reach. For fleet operators and large families, long-term running costs and resale will still tilt the scale in Ertiga’s favour. Nissan’s challenge will be to back the attractive pricing with consistent after-sales support to gain meaningful traction.
