Upcoming SUV Cars in India

The Indian electric car industry is on the rise and the future holds even more promising and exciting products

In this post, we take a look at the details of the upcoming SUV cars in India in the coming months. The EV space is expanding rapidly in our country. It has particularly been the case for a few years now. At the same time, the demand for SUVs continues to surge. This combination can bring exciting new products to entice new Indian buyers. For now, let us take a look at the details of the intriguing electric SUVs to watch out for.

Upcoming SUV Cars in India

Tata Sierra EV

Let us commence with the Tata Sierra EV. The ICE iteration of the Sierra has already been launched in our market. Hence, we can safely assume that the electric version will share a lot of design elements, as well as in-cabin amenities, with its ICE counterpart. This promises a butch and upright stance with modern Tata design language. This can be confirmed by the test mules spotted testing on our roads in recent times. The launch will most likely take place around the middle of 2026. The battery pack options will include 65 kWh and 75 kWh with 2WD and AWD configurations. That will be its appeal to attract a wide range of customers. Finally, the safety features will incorporate active (ADAS) and passive equipment. More details will emerge in the coming weeks.

Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella

Next up, we have the Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella on this list of the upcoming electric SUV cars in India. Note that the Ebella is the badge-engineered iteration of the Maruti e Vitara. We recently got the opportunity to drive the Ebella as part of the media interaction. Unlike other badge-swapped Toyota-Maruti products, the Ebella carries a distinct appearance in comparison to the e Vitara. The features list is rather long with amenities like a 10.25-inch touchscreen, a 10.1-inch digital instrument cluster, Level 2 ADAS, wireless smartphone connectivity, panoramic glass roof, 10-speaker premium JBL audio system, and much more. The battery pack options include a 49 kWh and 61 kWh with ARAI-certified range figures of 440 km and 543 km, respectively. The power and torque numbers are 144 PS / 189 Nm and 174 PS / 189 Nm, respectively.

Kia Syros EV

Then there is the Kia Syros EV on this list as well. The ICE Syros holds a distinct position in our market because its price overlaps with the Kia Sonet compact SUV. Still, it offers something unique in terms of aesthetics and interior layout. The Korean auto giant wants to replicate that appeal in the EV space, where the competition is relatively limited. Going by the spy images, the Syros EV will be a feature-laden product with tons of new-age tech and convenience amenities. The battery pack options could include a 42 kWh and 49 kWh unit. We might experience the launch by the end of this year.

Honda Zero Alpha

The Honda Zero Alpha is a special product which will be made for Indian, as well as international markets. In fact, the prototype of the production EV is manufactured at Honda’s Tapukara plant in Rajasthan. The testing has commenced in India and the Indian and Japanese markets will be the first ones to experience the launch. That highlights the Japanese car marque’s trust in the Indian manufacturing capabilities. The EV will make its debut in 2027.

VinFast VF3

Finally, we will also witness the VinFast VF3 for the Indian market in the coming months. We know that the Vietnamese carmaker has been expanding its footprint in India quite rapidly. It wants to dominate the Indian market with attractive pricing and also wants to make India its base for manufacturing to export the EV to other parts of the world.

The Vietnamese automaker has been adopting fresh approaches to generate excitement around its offerings. It is set to be the smallest and most budget-friendly VinFast vehicle designed to attract mass-market customers and support the Vietnamese brand in achieving high sales volumes across the country. With its boxy design and upright posture, many observers have already made comparisons between the VF3 and the Maruti Jimny regarding styling and road presence. The VF3 measures 3,190 mm in length and features a wheelbase of 2,075 mm, making it compact and well-suited for tackling congested city streets.

Despite its compact footprint, it boasts a rugged exterior with a rectangular front fascia, chrome strip spanning the front end, black bumper cladding, squared wheel arches and blacked-out pillars. The rear features a black panel, sleek taillamps linked by a chrome strip and a shark-fin antenna. Inside, the cabin adopts a minimalist layout with a flat-bottom steering wheel and a large freestanding touchscreen infotainment display. Key features include Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, rotary HVAC controls, wireless charging, keyless entry, a panoramic sunroof and 285 litres of boot space. Power comes from an 18.64 kWh battery delivering a claimed 210 km range (NEDC). The 32 kW motor generates 110 Nm, enabling 0-50 km/h in 5.3 seconds and fast charging from 10-70% in 36 minutes.

Yatharth Chauhan, Managing Editor

From my experience, the next wave of electric SUVs in India clearly reflects how carmakers are aligning products with evolving buyer expectations, premium features, higher range and SUV body styles. Models like the Sierra EV and Urban Cruiser Ebella indicate that legacy players are getting serious about scaling EV adoption beyond niche segments. Whatโ€™s particularly interesting is the entry of global disruptors like VinFast, which could shake up pricing and localisation strategies. Going forward, success in this space will depend not just on specs, but on how well brands balance affordability, infrastructure and real-world usability for Indian conditions
