A refreshed Mahindra Thar has been launched. Comes with a handful of updates

The new 2015 Mahindra Thar facelift has just been launched in India. We are present at the launch event and are currently experiencing the updated vehicle on a specially prepared track. The 2015 Mahindra Thar goes on sale for INR 8.03 lakhs (ex-showroom, Nashik) for the top-of-the-line CRDe engine variants. The new Thar gets some substantial updates both at its styling- and the mechanical-end. The biggest highlight of the recent update is the introduction of mechanical locking rear differential, which should make the Thar all the more competent off the road. The facelift is currently available only on the more premium CRDe variant, which is aimed at the ‘lifestyle-oriented’ audience. The more utilitarian DI variant remains unchanged. Specifications

Powering the 2015 Mahindra Thar new model is a 2,523cc, 4-cylinder, CRDe turbo-diesel motor that pumps out a maximum power of 63 BHP and a peak torque of 182.5 Nm. The motor comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and the Thar is available in both 2WD and 4WD avatars. As we just said, the Thar CRDe will now come with a mechanical limited slip differential. It is also likely that the updated Thar would get a new, lower capacity diesel engine in near future. This is the same engine that will be also seen powering the much anticipated U301 Mahindra Bolero.

Features

Earlier in its career, the Thar got some updates based on the customer feedback. Among the list of improvements made to the Thar were an improved canopy, new locking hubs for the front axles and a improved door handles and aircon switches. For the Thar facelift, Mahindra could again come up with some updates based on the feedback it has collected from existing customers. Also, Mahindra could offer some of the features it offered on the Thar Adventure Edition limited production model. The said vehicle boasted of a new Java Brown color, decals, headlight and taillight protectors and new upholstery. Production of this model was limited to just 30 units!
