Bajaj wishes to keep its focus on motorcycles and won't come up with a scooter anytime soon

New Bajaj Scooter launch nowhere in the offing

Putting an end to all the rumours, Mr. Rajiv Bajaj, MD, Bajaj Auto Ltd., recently announced that he has no plans of re-entering the scooter market anytime soon. Instead, he kept stressing on the fact that his company plans to become a major global motorcycle manufacturer, with up to 30 percent market share globally, before he might think of shifting a part of its focus on the scooter segment. This revelation came at the recently held Bajaj Pulsar Adventure Sport launch event, where Mr. Bajaj very clearly dismissed all rumours of a new Bajaj scooter launch possibility.

It was being said that Bajaj could relaunch the Chetak brand at the 2016 Auto Expo early next year. The rumours went on to state that the new-gen Chetak would boast of aย 125-150 cc four-stroke motor with the DTS-i tech and an automatic transmission. It maybe noted that the automatic scooter segment in India has grown several times in the past few years and manufacturers like Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India have been successful in grabbing a huge market share thru their contenders in the automatic scooter segments. While Bajaj too could have tested the waters by coming up with a new age automatic scooter under the Chetak moniker, Mr. Rajiv Bajaj has made it very clear thatย his company has no such plans.

The new AS 150 goes on sale for INR 79000 and becomes the first new generation Pulsar 150cc model. The launch of the new motorcycle will be followed by the new generation Pulsar 150 NS next month. On the other hand, the new Bajaj Pulsar AS 200 goes on sale for INR 91550, which is a full INR 3000 lesser than the sticker price of the 200 NS.
